Your role

  • Recommend further remedial works and other preventative measures to be carried out in conjunction with any treatment programme. Make appropriate referrals to other Council officers, Housing Associations, Private Landlords, Home Owners, Occupiers and businesses. Work in close connection with internal and external partners, e.g. CSC, Regulatory Services etc
  • Record details of and account for all products removed from poison store. Prepare and mix poison baits and insecticides as required. Ensure their safe and secure use and transportation. All in accordance with the Manufacturers directions, recommendations of DEFRA and the inhouse COSHH and risk assessments.
  • Provide written and verbal advice and information on safety associated with pest treatment and pesticides used.
  • In relation to block control surveys assess and determine the nature and level of infestation. Report findings and recommendations to Senior Pest Control Officer. Carry out block control treatments as part of a team under the supervision of the Senior Pest Control Officer.
  • To recommend enforcement where necessary to the Senior Pest Control Officer under the following legislation
  • The Public Health Act 1936 Section 8
  • The Prevention of Damage by Pests Act 1949 Section
  • The Public Health Acts 1936 sections and Public Health Act 1961 section 1
  • To update daily the MIS with written reports, on investigations actions and visits and also to inform the Senior Pest Control Officer with investigations as required. Or as directed to other Council officers.
  • Survey and determine appropriate treatment of premises following notification of infectious disease or unattended death. Prepare seal premises and complete treatment using an insecticide disinfectant/deodorant, or formaldehyde.
  • Carry out examinations and investigations of drainage systems in association with baiting programmes. Assist the Senior Pest Control Officer or Environmental Health Officer in carrying out drain tests.
  • In connection with the treatment of pests in commercial premises calculate the costs of the service to be provided. To provide a written estimate to the Senior Pest Control Officer for further action.
  • Complete all necessary paperwork, job cards vehicle log sheets in a neat and accurate manor. Enter all treatment information onto MIS. Make use of electronic mail system to communicate information to other Council officers, as required.
  • To assist in the training of pest control officers, technical officers, student environmental health officers and members of related professions. Including the provision of theoretical and onsite tuition.
  • Undertake further training and refresher courses as required to ensure continuing competence in providing safe and up to date treatment practices.
  • Attend other training courses as directed, particularly in relation to major Council policies. E.g. Valuing Diversity, Equal opportunities, Health and Safety at Work etc.
  • In the event of an outbreak of rabies in the borough undertake applicable duties in accordance with the instructions given by the Senior Pest Control Officer or Operations Manager.
  • To protect the Councils financial interests in all aspects of financial transactions the post holder is involved with, including the safekeeping of cash or cheques.
  • To participate in a rota to cover treatments in extended operational hours
  • Such other duties and/or responsibilities as may be allocated to the post and/or determined by the Service Manager.

£13.30-£15.00 per hour
