We have an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic and motivated full time Band 4 Employment, Training and Education (ETE) Advisor at the North London Forensic Service (NLFS) providing forensic mental health support to the boroughs of Camden, Islington, Barnet, Enfield & Haringey.

The service manages and facilitates the transition of high-risk service users with severe and enduring mental health illnesses through secure inpatient services into the community, as well as working in partnership with external local mental health organisations to support them with service users who present with an escalating risk.


The ETE Advisor will be responsible for providing information, advice and guidance to the client group in regards to education, training & employment opportunities within their local area.

The ETE Programme uses a recovery-orientated approach to deliver personalised support tailored specifically to meet the needs and aspirations of each individual.

Service aims are focused on co-production with an emphasis on encouraging social inclusion, improving self-esteem, confidence, self-belief and hope for the future, cultivating the discovery or re-discovery of a sense of personal identity; and developing meaningful structure promoting inclusion in their local communities.


The post holder will be based within the community, supporting ETE needs across the boroughs we work within, including the Community Learning Disability Team.

The role will at times include working on the low and medium secure wards in supporting those on the discharge pathway.

The post holder will be required to work autonomously at times, as well as part of the wider multidisciplinary team and Occupational Therapy department.

The post holder will manage a community caseload supporting service users in accessing vocational opportunities, including supporting and collaboratively working with individuals to complete paperwork, in searching for supportive courses and employment opportunities, and liaising with external organisations to share and disclosing sensitive information.


Most importantly, the post holder will need to work therapeutically with service users in building rapport, adapting communication and setting work related goals.

The post holder will need effective skills in managing their time, working across two community teams, attending departmental and multidisciplinary meetings, and managing the demands of a challenging client group with both mental health and learning disability needs.

Having both excellent written and verbal communication skills are crucial in this role.
