We now have an exciting opportunity for a committed and enthusiastic Engagement Mentor to join our school.

The purpose of the role is to ensure high levels of educational engagement in lessons from scholars with Social, Emotional and Mental Health needs, enabling learners to make good progress by working with teachers, other support staff, families and external agencies.


Key responsibilities:


  • Assist with the development and implementation and completion of Attendance Plans and Learning Plans
  • Support and challenge scholars to overcome barriers to attendance and interact with others, engage in learning tasks and take responsibility for their learning.
  • Set challenging and demanding expectations and promote selfesteem and independence.
  • Help students develop resilience and independence, both learning in lessons and forming positive relationships with peers and staff
  • Clarify feedback to students in relation to progress and achievement provided by their teachers.
  • Develop and enhance expertise in supporting students with complex social, emotional and mental health needs by attending training and working alongside relevant internal and external professionals such as psychologists and therapists.
  • Provide support in the delivery of specialist interventions, taking a lead where appropriate.
  • Monitor scholars' responses to learning activities and accurately record achievement/progress as directed
  • Provide detailed and regular feedback to teachers on students' achievement and progress.
  • Promote excellent behaviour, dealing promptly with conflict and incidents in line with established policy and encourage students to take responsibility for their own behaviour.
  • Establish supportive relationships with parents/carers.
  • Be passionate about working with young people and supporting those with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities.
  • Have a good general level of education to include Maths and English GCSE grade C or above, and further formal qualifications relevant to this post.
  • Be able to support scholars' learning.
  • Have the belief that every scholar can be successful
  • Have the desire to make a real difference to the lives of our scholars
  • Have ability to use initiative and problem solve
  • Good numeracy skills; able to analyse and interpret data
  • Ability to relate well to both children and adults; able to develop and maintain positive working relationships with students, their families, colleagues and other professionals
  • Demonstrate tact and sensitivity where appropriate
