The Oxford Kidney unit has an exciting new role for a Trainee Youth Worker in Renal and Transplantation to join the young adult Transplantation programme at the Churchill hospital on a fixed term contract for 2 years.


The post holder will join a small team to provide youth work services to young people attached to Oxford Kidney Unit and Oxford Transplant Centre including patients transitioning to adult renal services from paediatric renal unit care.

This includes:


  • Working flexibly to support a varied programme of activities and recreational and social facilities during the day and evening, with due regard for the needs and opinions of young people.
  • To act as an advocate and source of support for young people within the renal and transplant unit.
  • Participate in ongoing education for patients and their families about adolescent issues.
  • Liaise closely with other health and social care professionals to ensure a coordinated approach and high
- quality care is provided.

Please refer to the attached job description for further information:1.1 To participate in a youth service throughout renal and transplant services.


1.2 To work flexibly to support a varied programme of activities and recreational and social facilities during the day and evening, with due regard for the needs and opinions of young people.

1.3 To act as an advocate and source of support for young people within the renal and transplant unit.


1.4 To work both within the Oxford University Hospital and outreach into the community to support young adult patients with home and community visits.

1.5 Ensure up to date evidence-based practice by close liaison with the renal youth worker. Maintain an awareness of national youth work agenda.

2.1 To establish relationships with key individual and as appropriate parents/carers and siblings

2.2 Liaise closely with other health and social care professionals to ensure a co-ordinated approach and high
- quality care is provided.

2.3 Convey and present complex information, written or verbal, formally or informally, as appropriate. Ensure that where applicable, information is maintained and kept in an appropriate place. Ensure that written documentation is kept in respect of all investigations and incidents.
