Overview:


The data editor is a specialised position within Haymarket Media Group, incorporating the work of analysis, journalism, data visualisation and database management.

The data editor will report to the senior data editor and together will work with Haymarket Media Group stakeholders to contribute to the business goals of some of its titles.

The data editor can expect to work across
_Campaign_ and
_PRWeek_, Haymarket Media Group's B2B titles focused on the advertising and public relations industries.


Responsibilities:


  • Maintaining internal databases. Working with large spreadsheets that will support specific data products or special reports, and they will require regular maintenance, such as adding new information, revising previous data and general quality assurance.
  • Analysing industry data and identifying trends of interest. These data sets vary and include (but are not limited to): financial information, survey results, newbusiness activity, awards, people moves, macroeconomic measures and diversity indicators.
  • Visualising data and trends in interesting ways to support the value of premiumtier data articles and products.
  • Writing dataled articles for the premium subscription tier.
  • Communicating with stakeholders on dataled content plans. This includes regular meetings with colleagues across the business titles.
  • Communicating with the senior data editor, who will oversee and support the data editor in completing these tasks.

Split in responsibilities:


  • Campaign_ UK (20%)
  • Work on new data analysis/projects for Campaign UK as part of the title's data strategy
  • Assistance with data on more general premiumtier articles
  • Campaign_ Advertising Intelligence (25%)
  • Processing new data regularly
  • Data assurance in the short and long term
  • Standardising and mapping new entries on the internal database
  • Producing agency rankings that cover a number of regions
  • Assisting on special projects
  • Producing bespoke reports according to subscriber request
  • PRWeek_ UK (25%)
  • Supporting premium subscription tier with data articles
  • Producing and writing premium subscription tier's flagship monthly rankings
  • Assisting on existing data projects such as 'The Top 150'
  • PRWeek_ data tracker (20%)
  • Collecting and cleaning recruitment data and other data sets
  • Working with the senior data editor to support the initial release of the product and develop it further according to feedback
Other (10%)

  • Advisory meetings with other Haymarket titles/stakeholders
  • External meetings with clients to promote your work
  • Attending industry events, such as awards ceremonies and conferences, and taking an interest in other areas such as podcasts

Qualifications:

Essential

  • Proficient in Excel/Google Sheets
  • Knowledge of common formulas is key (vlookups/sumifs/countifs etc), as well as comfort using features such as 'text to columns', 'conditional formatting', 'sorting' and 'filtering'.
  • Confidence working with data. This includes data in different formats (Google Docs/Google Sheets/Excel etc). This also includes manipulating data that is not in a desirable format (webpages/surveys etc) into a usable format.
  • Ability to identify trends from data to look for the 'bigger story'. Comfort with working with large spreadsheets and being able to identify trends independently.
  • Highlevel communication and interpersonal skills. The data editor will need to communicate ideas and strategy on dataled offerings to stakeholders and other teams across Haymarket Media Group and be able to clearly communicate with the senior data editor.
  • Ability to determine how data should be visualised to best illustrate trends ie what infographics work best for specific data sets.
  • Ability to write to a high standard and express data trends effectively in writing.
  • Ability to take on tasks assigned by the senior data editor independently and deliver them on time sometimes under tight deadlines.

Not Essential (but highly desirable)

  • Experience as a journalist/data journalist/reporter/writer.
  • Knowledge of the advertising and/or public relations industries.
  • Knowledge of the _Campaign UK_ and _PRWeek UK_ titles and their offering.
  • Experience with data visualisation software or tools, such as Infogram or Datawrapper.
  • Experience with national or industry data sources.
  • Experience with programming languages.
  • Experience with AI.
