About St Joseph's Hospice


St Joseph's Hospice is one of the oldest hospices in the country, our UK service opened in Thornton in 1974 and now each year we provide care and support to over 200 people with life limiting conditions from within the West Lancashire, Sefton, Liverpool and Knowsley areas.

The hospice is set in 12 acres of tranquil woodland.


Our volunteers are a crucial part of our operation, not only at the hospice, but in our shops to generate much needed income.

As part of the HR team, key duties of the role will include:


  • Being the 'Go to' person at the Hospice for volunteer advice and best practice
  • To ensure that we have sufficient volunteers with the right skills and expertise to sustain the Charity's operations at the highest level.
  • Actively recruit volunteers with departmental managers.
  • Work with departmental managers and staff, to ensure each volunteer experiences a rewarding and positive experience.
  • To act as role manager for the Volunteer reception team

Required skills and experience of the Volunteer Co-ordinator

  • Previous experience in Volunteer Coordination/Administration role, ideally in a healthcare setting
  • Strong administrative, organisation and IT skills
  • Ability to build and maintain relationships
  • Knowledge of current trends and practices relating to volunteer recruitment, management and retention
  • Ability to create and deliver training content

£14,976.00 per year
