Applications are invited for a Consultant in Obstetrics and Materno-Fetal Medicine at Cambridge University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust to commence from 16 November 2023.

This is a 10 PA replacement post supporting our Fetal Medicine Unit and Obstetric department.


This is a busy tertiary level unit that takes referrals from the surrounding area in both Fetal and Maternal Medicine and has one of the largest level 3 Neonatal Units in the country.

By joining us, you will enhance our Obstetric and Fetal Medicine team who are dedicated to promoting excellence in care for women and their babies within Cambridge and across the Eastern region.


We are a dynamic and forward thinking team that is keen to recruit a colleague who will work flexibly and adapt to the changing needs of the service we provide.

There are approximately 5700 deliveries annually and we aim to strengthen the provision of Fetal Medicine services and high risk pregnancy care within our Maternity Service.

Main duties of the job


You will be fully registered with the GMC and ideally have a CCT in Obstetrics & Gynaecology and sub-speciality training in Materno-Fetal Medicine or be within six months of award of CCT at the time of interview.

As part of our commitment to supporting the medical workforce in the part they play in delivering an excellent caring service to patients, all newly appointed Consultants attend our five-day Consultant Development programme within a year of joining the Trust.

Leadership is a key requirement of doctors' professional work and this innovative programme is designed to support Consultants to hone the leadership and management skills they need to succeed at CUH.

The applicant must have demonstrable skills in listening, reading, writing and speaking in English that enable effective communication about medical topics with patients and colleagues, as set out in the GMC's Good Medical Practice Non-UK applicants must possess the IELTS/OET exam before obtaining a GMC licence to practice.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities


This post is designed to meet the increasing demands on our Fetal Medicine Service and to support the Obstetric Service in meeting Ockenden recommendations.


We also expect the appointee to participate in MDT training and have experience in managing women with complex medical conditions, in line with our status as a regional Maternal Medicine Network Hub for the Eastern region.


The appointees will be expected to participate in both undergraduate and post-graduate teaching and training within the Rosie Maternity Hospital.
