Description

We are looking for an enthusiastic art therapist to work as part of a multi-disciplinary team providing high quality art therapy within a comprehensive adult eating disorders service, across the areas of inpatient and day programme teams.

The art therapist is a core professional within the Psychological Therapies Team within the eating disorder service.

The St Ann's Eating Disorders Service (SAEDS), based at St Ann's Hospital in Haringey, is part of the Haringey service line of Barnet, Enfield and Haringey Mental Health NHS Trust, which alongside Camden and Islington NHS Foundation Trust forms the North London Mental Health Partnership (NLMHP).

It is a substantial, well-established facility with a regional catchment area that offers a specialist service to adults (18 years upwards) with a primary eating disorder.

SAEDS provides a service for the three local boroughs of Haringey, Barnet and Enfield as well Camden, Islington, Tower Hamlets, City & Hackney and Newham, which comprises a population of five and a half million.

The multidisciplinary team at SAEDS offers a comprehensive range of therapeutic interventions including intensive inpatient care, a day programme, community liaison work, and outpatient services.

The Psychological Therapies Team, a significant part of SAEDS, includes qualified Psychologists, CBT Therapists, Assistant Psychologists, a Family Therapist, and an Art Therapist.

We also regularly have Trainee Clinical and Counselling Psychologists and Art Therapy Trainees on placement within our team.

Managerial and professional accountability are to a Principal Psychologist who, in turn, reports managerially to the Service Lead of SAEDS.

Joint working, consultation, and liaison occur with members of the multidisciplinary SAEDS team and other professionals and agencies working with eating disorders.

In addition to a weekly Psychological Therapies Team meeting and fortnightly CPD sessions, there are regular multidisciplinary meetings for inpatients and outpatients as well as clinical improvement groups where the whole service meets on a monthly basis.

There are also monthly reflective practice sessions in each of the three different service settings.

Therapeutic work is the central activity of the Psychological Therapies department, although teaching, training, consultation and supervision are provided to professional colleagues within and outside SAEDS.

Regular clinical and managerial supervision is provided in line with BPS and HCPC professional requirements.

Professional Development Plans are drawn up for each team member, setting, monitoring and reviewing individuals' CPD objectives as part of their annual appraisal.

  • To work autonomously within British Association of Art Therapists (BAAT) guidelines and the overall framework of the Trust's policies and guidelines.
  • To provide a diagnostic, assessment and treatment service for patients of the Eating Disorder Service, using appropriate specialised Art Therapy approaches.
  • To provide Art Therapy sessions, including group and individual work as appropriate.
  • To maintain systems for prioritising referrals to Art Therapy.
  • To work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team, developing good staff relations and liaising with the multidisciplinary team on clinical issues.
  • To attend ward rounds, CPA meetings, clinical meetings or multidisciplinary reviews as required.
  • To provide specialist clinical placements and supervision for honorary contract holders undertaking Art Therapy training.
