Do you have a strong interest in Ruminant Nutrition with both technical and industry experience? Are you methodical, knowledgeable and curious, who enjoys data interpretation and analysis? This is a great opportunity to join our expert Technical team working closely with Quality Assurance, Marketing, Category, Sales and Operational teams.


Reporting to our Head of Technical (Ruminant), working in a varied and interesting role, you will support the Blends formulation team regarding changes to existing feed and new product development, training and upskilling various teams regarding latest nutrition updates and information, investigating technical complaints, analysis of raw materials including liaison with our suppliers and blend sites, maintaining and updating our rationing tool whilst supporting the quality team with critical labelling information.


The selected individual will possess a solid foundation in ruminant nutrition and a comprehension of the entire ruminant supply chain, focusing on both dairy and beef production.

An insight and understanding raw materials is essential with the ability to test, interpret and present analytical data.

This position is an an integral part of ensuring quality and nutritional integrity to our farm and business customers, whilst putting animal welfare and sustainability at the core of everything we do.


What you'll be doing:


  • In conjunction with the Category and Product Managers, Technical and Quality teams support an ingredient introduction process that ensures: The business manufactures safe feed, only uses approved feed ingredients and is compliant with internal procedures and all EU and UK legislation.
  • Work with the QA Data Manager to maintain appropriate analytical frequency testing schedules and tolerances for both standard and "undesirable" analytes.
  • Establish and maintain proactive working relationships with contracted laboratories, to ensure appropriate methodology is used, data is accurately reported and timescales are managed as well as managing discussions with suppliers if specifications are out of tolerance.
  • Maintain a current and seasonal understanding of undesirable substances, and document analytical results in an appropriate database. Communicate concerns to relevant colleagues (e.g. Technical and Quality teams).
  • Take part in Raw material matrix reviews in order to maintain a current and appropriate nutritional database on the feed formulation system.
  • Support the blends nutritionists, and work with external 3rd party suppliers, to ensure labelling for all manufactured and traded coproducts is compliant with all UK and EU legislation and codes of practice.
  • Supplier Risk Review input coordinating inputs into this process and agreeing appropriate supplier audits.

What you'll bring:


  • A biological scientific background at degree level with ruminant nutrition knowledge and relevant industry experience.
  • A working understanding of analytical methodology.
  • Ability to handle and interpret vast quantities of analytical data.
  • Have a good understanding of animal responses to nutrients and undesirable substances.
  • Detailed knowledge of the requirements of feed legislation and assurance schemes and the impact upon our products and how to implement necessary changes to our processes to allow compliance.
  • Communication skills which enable discussions at both a highly technical and practical level to internal customers and suppliers.
  • The ability to think innovatively, with enthusiasm for new ideas.
  • Ability to take part in, as well as lead, projects which support business goals.
