This role is agile with flexibility to work remotely but there will be a requirement to work out of 10 Victoria Street, London 2-3 days a week.

THE NATIONAL POLICE CHIEFS' COUNCIL (NPCC)

NPCC Business Support (BS) TEAM


Business Support maintains the logistics for the delivery of strategic meetings including Chief Constables Council, Regional Chiefs and the newly formed Strategic Planning and Coordination Board.

Other responsibilities include supporting the remote workforce for all IT and equipment, HR support, finance, governance assurance, information management and data protection protocols, and host force management duties.

The team also work with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders to ensure the NPCC is able to support Chief Officers in the constantly evolving areas of national policing.


The Role


A key part of the role is to support the Business Support Manager in the planning of key governance meetings including Chief Constables' Council and Regional Chiefs.

This will involve liaison with Chief Constables, Regional Leads, Committee Leads and Senior Home Office officials, to shape agendas and keep an accurate record of all discussions and actions.


The post holder is responsible for:

  • Regular daily communications with all Chief Officers and respective staff in England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland, government departments and key stakeholders providing professional advice, guidance and support and managing enquiries on behalf of the leadership of the Police Service
  • The job holder will engage with a variety of national bodies and individuals at a strategic level in order to support the Business Support Manager in achieving the aims of the organisation
  • Will be required to manage contact with key stakeholders on a range of policing issues
  • Will be responsible for written communication involving the production of appropriate documentation and agendas, writing management reports, maintaining accurate records and database spreadsheets and minutetaking of meetings and ensuring the national ChiefsNet site is kept uptodate
  • Responsible for the provision of a crossteam business support service to the NPCC Hub ensuring that an effective, efficient and customer focussed service is delivered for NPCC
  • Provide business support for the NPCCs work programmes and hub, working in collaboration across the NPCC team; support to the business support manager in the development and maintenance of plans, delivery of projects and products on time
  • Support to the Business Support Manager for the provision of administrative and business support for strategic meetings including collating and quality assuring agendas and papers, taking and circulating minutes and chasing action updates. Support the Business Manager in the preparation and running of NPCC governance boards including Chief Constables' Council
  • Produce reports and presentations, draft letters and responses to routine and nonroutine enquiries ensuring that information is prepared and presented in a professional and timely manner
  • There will also be a requirement to support the HR & Recruitment Team with the delivery of recruitment for NPCC and the management of secondment and attachment agreements


There will also be a requirement to support the Resourcing Managers on the HR & Resourcing side of the business on an ad-hoc basis, supporting recruitment and managing HR tasks and queries.

In addition to this, the role may be required to undertake other activities and changing demands of the NPCC, commensurate with the post to ensure effective delivery of NPCC objectives.


  • Experience and ability to manage competing demands
  • Knowledge and experience with Microsoft packages, specifically Excel, Word, Outlook & Teams
  • The ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing directly to a varied audience at a senior to leadership level, including stakeholders and regulators.
  • Experience of supporting high level governance meetings.
