About Us


Pabulum is an award-winning education caterer with over 25 years' experience of providing healthy and fresh food to children/students in Primary and Secondary Schools, our current estate is 140 schools.


We are based in Fleet, Hampshire and only operate within a 125-mile radius of our office, ranging from the South Coast to South Cambridge.


Pabulum cooks from scratch and avoids using whenever possible processed, frozen or branded food and with a strong focus on British Seasonal Produce.

About the Role


You will be responsible for the provision of a comprehensive and professional Human Resource service that covers the full range of HR capabilities from HR Administration through to the development of a visionary People Plan that aligns to the Pabulum Strategic Business Plan.

Drawing on your knowledge and experience within HR, processes, and best practice to influence organisational design and strategy.


Set a clear direction for all aspects of HR Operations, providing day to day management and adopting a hands-on approach when required.

Collaborate with other functional leaders to deliver effective operational processes that are supported by appropriate systems, which are integrated and deliver efficient ways of working across the business.


Lead the development and implementation of an annual performance cycle using performance development processes, supporting policies and training framework that leads to a culture of open feedback and personal improvement In collaboration with the Managing Director, develop Reward and Recognition initiatives that are linked to desired performance levels, are affordable and meet talent and succession plan retention targets.


Support the Management Team through the development and delivery of the People Plan to ensure it remains fit for purpose and measurable using HR tools such as KPI's and Performance Dashboards.


Develop and maintain effective internal and external relationships with key stakeholders to build the Pabulum brand and create an environment that encourages continuous improvement and high levels of employee wellbeing and engagement.


Working in close collaboration with business leaders and managers, ensure the design of the organisation is optimal; that roles and responsibilities are aligned, jobs are appropriately sized and rewarded in line with the market and that all employees and managers have clarity regarding expectations (outputs and behaviours) of each role.


Use a deeper level of TUPE experience to ensure the appropriate level of HR input, advice and support is in place for all business development activity from bids and tenders to on boarding or transfer out.


Lead, manage, develop and motivate a team of HR professionals through setting professional standards and keeping up to date on HR and industry trends.

Carry out any additional duties as reasonably requested by line management. Manage the budgets for the People Team, training and development and the apprenticeship levy.

About You

  • 5 years+ people management experience within a multisite environment providing a broad spectrum of operational HR support.
  • Proven experience of managing a people function inclusive of payroll.
  • TUPE hands on experience of the management of transfers both in and out essential. Experience of local government outsourcing environment would also be a distinct advantage.
  • Proven track record in delivering a people strategy.
  • Up to date knowledge of employment law and modern HR practices
  • Excellent communication and relationship building skills at all levels.
  • Management skills and ability to empower, motivate and to create a positive, inclusive team ethos.
  • Ability to present, understand and interpret financial and other numeric information.
  • Personal resilience and an ability to cope with ambiguity and uncertainty in a sometimespressurised environment.
  • Ability to travel nationally on an ad hoc basis with a full clean driving licence.
  • CIPD qualified ideally to Level 7 or equivalent experience.
