An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced and dynamic Occupational Therapist to join the Forensic Service as Head of Occupational Therapy as a permanent staff member.

You would be based within a busy service working with service users with severe and enduring mental illness who have a serious of serious offending, drawing upon their strengths to support their recovery and transition from hospital into the community.

The service operates two inpatient sites (medium secure and low secure) as well as a community service, and specialist services include learning disability, ASD and personality disorder.


You would lead a large team of Occupational Therapists as well as the Education and Sports Therapy Teams, Vocational Service and Recovery College, providing inspirational Occupational Therapy leadership as well as supporting excellent multidisciplinary partnerships.

You would be a key member of the senior leadership group and would be required to deputise for the Associate Clinical Director for Therapies and Recovery.


You would be physically based in diverse Hackney, in the heart of East London, within a directorate and Trust that have both been rated as Outstanding by the Care Quality Commission.

The Forensic Service has this year won a number of national awards for its Quality Improvement work on bold areas such as sexual expression and race/ privilege and you would need to be enthusiastic about leading and supporting on Improvement work, a culture of which is very well-established within the Trust.

Main duties of the job

  • To ensure that inpatient service users are provided with timely and effective OT assessment and interventions based on individual assessment of need, in accordance with directorate and commissioner requirements
  • To develop and maintain a service user-focused approach sensitive to the personal and cultural needs of patients.
  • To be involved in specialist individual work with service users on a particular ward including assessment and interventions.
  • To lead and co-facilitate OT-led groups and interventions in MSU and LSU sites
  • To co-ordinate the operational management of the MSU and LSU OT service to ensure the timely and effective delivery of OT assessments and interventions
