The core purpose of the role is to direct and supervise the activities of personnel within the Electrical Services Section of the Design and Engineering Department.

The role holder will liaise with other design disciplines to produce all necessary design drawings, specifications and other relevant documentation to the required standard, in accordance with the client brief, contract documentation and budgets.


Other key responsibilities include:

  • Provide fundamental technical and scheduling guidance to subordinates
  • Assist in establishing design criteria in order to set project parameters.
  • Allocation of department resources to deal with the preparation of coordinated electrical design, including the checking of calculations, drawings, specifications, schedules, estimates and other relevant design documentation for completeness and accuracy
  • Ensuring that the quality of output and productivity of the Electrical Section meets requirements
  • Participates in the preparation of estimates for design assignments, and monitors hours spent on each project against the target estimate / design completion, reporting on a regular basis to the relevant Project Manager and to the Director of Design & Engineering.
  • Be a proactive main Client contact/interface, to ensure that the team, as a minimum, meets the Clients expectations.


Due to the nature of the consultancy the post holder may be involved in the conceptual stage of a new design project in an advisory capacity, and increasingly so, during the preliminary design phase.

This may include being tasked with producing electrical design associated with projects. These projects range in values from £2M - £25M.


Looking after a team of 6, the role holder will be responsible for conducting formal reviews with staff, at least annually, to assess past and present performance and set agreed targets.

You will nurture and develop this team, including identifying training needs.

In order to be considered, you will be degree qualified in the relevant field (Electrical Engineering or similar). You will also need to be chartered or working towards your chartership as a minimum. Previous experience working for a consultancy is desirable but not essential.

Applicants are also encouraged to have worked in a highly regulated industry, including but not limited to pharmaceuticals, food, chemicals, power etc.
