About the role


We are looking for someone to join our legislation publishing team at The National Archives, to help us ensure that all new legislation is registered and published quickly, efficiently and to a high level of quality.

You will gain a fascinating insight into how laws are made, and your job will be the vital final step in new legislation being made available to the public.

You will support the Publishing Services Manager in ensuring that effective systems are in place for managing the publishing of new legislation in print and online.


You will be a source of advice and support for legislation drafters and users of our publishing system from across the UK, helping them to ensure that their legislation is managed successfully through the publishing process, often to tight deadlines.

The scope of the role includes the publishing of all UK primary and secondary legislation, associated documents, Bound Volumes, and corrections.

You will, as also support the Official Publishing Manager in handling the operational delivery of Command and House of Commons Papers for laying in Parliament.


You will also support the Publishing Services Manager in the integration and roll-out of Lawmaker, a groundbreaking new online legislation drafting and amendment service, to replace the tools currently used for drafting and publishing UK and Scottish Primary and Secondary legislation.

You will assist the Lawmaker Service team in ensuring a successful transition of legislation drafters and processors to this new system.


You will have excellent written and oral communication skills, engaging a range of stakeholders including government lawyers, policy officials and legislative drafting lawyers, as well as clerks in the various Parliaments and Assemblies in the UK.

You will need to be responsive, diplomatic, and flexible in approach as we prioritise work in line with the priorities of key stakeholders and Government partners, and the requirements of the law.


About you


We are looking for someone who is personable, flexible, willing to learn, detail-focused, a great team player with an ability to convey complicated technical ideas in an easy to understand way.

Any first-hand experience of working with legal or regulatory materials is ideal.

However, as important is a genuine interest in what we're trying to achieve, and a passion for ensuring our users have access to the best possible legislation service.

You will have experience of editorial or publishing processes, ideally for an online service (or if not, an aptitude for mastering new IT systems quickly), with an understanding of the impact of publishing quality standards and timescales on others - particularly the users of

However, requests for flexible working and job share will be considered, taking into account at all times the operational needs of the Department.

A combination of onsite and home working is available and applicants should be able to travel regularly to our Kew site.
