This newly created role,
Associate Director - External Innovation & Partnerships, will be accountable for the evaluation and development of external partnerships for the delivery of Oncology Translational Research Lab and precision medicine strategies to support the Oncology TA pipeline.


Successful delivery of this role will contribute to provision of external collaborations with third parties in the oncology area to enable: (i) emerging technologies that help us select the right patients, (ii) emerging technologies enabling us to measure novel endpoints in our clinical studies and identify sub-populations to maximize overall potential of our existing portfolio.

This will result in greater probability of success in medicine development.

In this role you will

  • Contribute to development of the Oncology Translational Research partnering strategy including (i) evaluation and recommendation of external companies to support development of novel technologies; (ii) new areas of science, including partnerships and collaborations in oncology; (iii) ensuring alignment of Oncology Translational Research strategy with broader oncology vision and mission.


  • Support the Director

  • Strategy and Planning (and the VP
  • Oncology Translational Research) to execute on the following: (i) Identification, sourcing, outreach and assessment of innovative business and partnering opportunities for Oncology precision medicine in support of the GSK pipeline; (ii) Develop strategic plans to support the building of business cases for external translational research BD opportunities; (iii) Cultivate and grow Oncology Translational Research partnerships with diagnostic, translational and technology platform developers to support Oncology to advance research, clinical and/or commercial programs.
  • Work crossfunctionally within R&D to support and progress the Oncology Translational Research strategy, mission and vision within the Oncology TA arena.
  • Lead Oncology Translational Research team though evaluation and due diligence to support new opportunities and partnerships for oncology.
  • Support management of diagnostic partnership portfolio through tracking and maintaining collaboration report.

Basic Qualifications & Skills:


We are looking for professionals with these required skills to achieve our goals:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Life Sciences, or Masters
  • Extensive Pharmaceutical/ Biotech industry experience, drug development experience
  • Experience developing strategy and problem solving in drug development, pharma and translational scientific and medicine development (R&D), including oversight and delivery; experienced in working in an intense, rapidly evolving environment with an entrepreneurial approach to external relationships
  • Scientific background to communicate critical Oncology medical, scientific and business information and to internal & external stakeholders
  • Experience with governance procedures relevant to strategy development and deals, including BD (e.g. CDAs, Deal Flow, delegation of authorities, due diligence etc.)

Preferred Qualifications & Skills:

  • PhD in life sciences and/or MBA
  • Ability to tackle a wide range of projects and competent in internal and external engagements.
  • Strong analytical skills and ability to ascertain salient points from large amount of information; strong interpersonal, communication and crossfunctional team engagement
  • Flexibility and ability to work well with ambiguity and in intense situations.
  • Gravitas and experience to create a positive relationship with third parties
  • Ability to escalate potential concerns or risks regarding partnerships to leadership
  • Proactive mindset that bridges ideas to realizable and deliverable solutions, and can help move both internal and external stakeholders to quickly solve problems
