    Job Overview

    The Power System Design Principal Consultant will be a key member of RINA's UK Engineering Team, contributing to the effective execution of engineering functions within projects and tenders.

    Responsibilities

    1. Provide technical solutions for substations comprising single-line diagrams, technical information, layouts, and associated detail drawings and documents in accordance with established applicable standards, processes, and customer specifications through allocated resources locally and in other business units.
    2. Develop technical concepts, technical specifications, select equipment and connection materials considering costs, quality, international standards, and materials.
    3. Provide technical calculations, purchasing specifications, and schedules for all equipment for projects or tenders.
    4. Prepare bills of quantities and cost estimations, deviations, and clarifications for technical solutions.
    5. Review suppliers' designs, factory acceptance test plans, attend factory and site tests.
    6. Lead complex EHV/HV Air & Gas Insulated Substation (AIS & GIS) projects.
    7. Manage engineering budgets, schedules, forecasts, risk, and change management activities.
    8. Ensure respect of project performance KPIs as defined in the proposal stage.
    9. Maintain quality assurance of all work within the team, undertaking QA checks of others' work, reporting, and deliverables.

    Essential Experience and Qualifications

    1. A deep understanding of T&D theory, coupled with at least 10 years of experience in Transmission & Distribution Engineering environments.
    2. A Master's Degree in Electrical Engineering or a relevant technical discipline.
    3. Chartered Engineer status.
    4. Power systems design up to 132kV (preferably up to 400kV) across various projects for Industrial, Distribution, and Transmission networks in key areas such as Conceptual/Feasibility Study and Design, System Studies, Protection, and Substation Design.
    5. Extensive substation engineering experience in utilities, knowledge of required legislative demands and standards.
    6. Proficiency with simulation software and electrical circuit modeling tools.
    7. Familiarity with system studies like load flow, short circuit calculation, insulation coordination; Single Line Diagrams, CT/VT calculations, Auxiliary Power Systems, power cables.
    8. Knowledge of secondary engineering, protection, and control systems.
    9. Experience in Installation & Commissioning is an asset. Strong proficiency in MS Office, knowledge of MicroStation and AutoCAD required.
