£12.00 per hour

Hours:
This post will necessitate flexible working hours around an average of 20hrs per week including weekends, bank holidays and evenings

Contract:
Temporary, April September 2024


As an Assistant Water Ranger, you will support the Water Ranger in the management of recreational craft and moorings throughout the waterway and provide information, advice and assistance to water users when required.


PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILTIES

  • Assist the Water Ranger in patrolling the waterway providing information and advice on safety, conservation, and Port Authority Byelaws.
  • Assist in maintenance of patrol log, moorings information database and byelaw infringement records and assist with any actions arising. Accuracy of data critical due to legal compliance requirements.
  • To Cox the patrol vessel as and when required.
  • Liaise with recreational users of the Haven and interested parties.
  • Other duties of a similar level as required.

PERSON SPECIFICATION

Essential:


  • RYA Powerboat Level 2 qualification and practical experience of boat handling.
  • Ability to communicate confidently and effectively with all users of the waterway.
  • Good IT skills.
  • Must enjoy working outside.
  • Interest in waterbased recreation and conservation management.
  • Ability to get on with others and cope with routine tasks.
  • Ability to deliver presentations to groups

Desirable:


  • Relevant experience in the marine leisure sector.
  • RYA Powerboat Level 2 commercially endorsed qualification
  • VHF/DSC Licence.
  • RYA Safety Boat Qualification.
  • Knowledge of the Milford Haven Waterway and the recreational and environmental issues would be an advantage.

SPECIAL CONDITIONS

  • This post will necessitate flexible working hours around an average of 20hrs per week including weekends, bank holidays and evenings.
  • The post holder is required to hold a Maritime & Coastguard Agency certificate of Medical Fitness (ML5).
