To support the effective running of the Finance department in delivering its key core duties covering financial control, budget monitoring, cash and treasury management.


Over the course of the apprenticeship, as knowledge and confidence develop this role will act as a key and proactive member of the Financial Accounts Team to enable capacity to be flexed to meet the peaks in workload across the department.

Key responsibilities will include:

  • Assist in ensuring accurate and timely processing of financial information in relation to:
  • Clearance of Non-PO Inbox (Accounts Payable)
  • Payment requests,
  • Rail tickets and hotel bookings, and
  • Support the completion of monthly accrual, adjustment, and prepayment journals to support the production of accurate and timely management accounting information.
  • Input of data/information into key financial systems, eg UNIT4, bespoke spreadsheets, to maintain accurate and appropriate accounting records.
  • Assist the Financial and Charitable Fund Accountant with the Trust's Service provider to resolve routine day to day queries including payment of purchase invoices, setting up new suppliers and maintenance of UNIT4 user database.
  • Assist the Financial and Charitable Fund Accountant to ensure that the Better Payment Practice Code is adhered to. This will involve chasing up approval of invoices which are about to become overdue.
  • Support preparation of control account reconciliations including investigating any differences and taking actions to resolve, and for ensuring control account reconciliations prepared by Trust's Service Provider are received on a timely basis and for reviewing same.
  • Produce backing documents and working papers to support the monthend files and the annual accounts and the subsequent audit process.
  • Assist the Financial and Charitable Fund Accountant, Financial System and Reporting Accountant and Head of Financial Accounts in the Agreement of Balances exercise for creditor balances.
  • Ensure compliance with the financial procedures pertinent to own area of work.
  • Undertake basic data manipulation, analysis and interpretation.
Apprenticeship Responsibilities

  • Achieve a Level 3 Apprenticeship depending on experience and completing the AAT Accounting
  • Work within the Trust to gain confidence, experience and build a portfolio of evidence for apprenticeship accreditation
  • Carry out delegated activities. To be a reliable and helpful member of the team, communicating well across the team.
  • Gain work experience and participate in appropriate training opportunities and understand the role
  • Be an ambassador for the apprenticeship programme.
  • Attend any training associated with the apprenticeship programme and complete units within deadlines. To be committed to completing the training and completing the programme.
  • Shadow team members, attend meetings and undertake learning opportunities.
  • Attend training sessions and workshops as directed.
  • Participate with supervision sessions to identify progress and take on board constructive criticism when needed. Meet your assessor on a regular basis to action plan for your portfolio.
  • Maintain good time keeping and attendance
