Description

Murray McIntosh are proud to announce that we are supporting The Motorcycle Industry Association in the recruitment of a Public Affairs Manager to play a key part in furthering the organisation's policy and public affairs agenda.

The MCIA is the Trade Association representing the 90% of large global manufacturers and importers of motorcycles, scooters and similar light vehicle types, as well as many suppliers and service providers to the sector.

This role offers the opportunity to help tackle one of the greatest challenges of our age - the decarbonisation of transport as part of the MCIA's Future of Transport initiative.

The Public Affairs Manager will support the development of MCIA's strategic public affairs priorities and lead on their implementation, joining the Head of Policy and Public Affairs in serving the core functions of the organisation; to provide services, support and representation on behalf of their members across the industry as a whole.

The role:

  • Managing political and external engagement to ensure opportunities are maximised, including building alliances to strengthen MCIA's representation
  • Building and maintain relationships with a network of MPs, Peers and civil servants
  • Keeping abreast of parliamentary activity and Government announcements to identify opportunities and potential threats for members
  • Meticulously tracking MCIA's political engagement activities and impact to inform and refine future approaches
  • Writing parliamentary questions and briefing papers for a wide array of audiences
  • Working closely with the events team to identify opportunities for impactful parliamentary events and leading on their execution.

We're looking for:

  • Experience working in a role with a major focus on external engagement in a policy and/or public affairs setting. Previous trade association and /or agency experience would be desirable.
  • Deep understanding of the political landscape across the UK and, in particular, the workings of Westminster and Whitehall. It would be beneficial to also have a good knowledge of the European Parliament.
  • Exposure to working in a regulated industry. Experience working in trade could also prove to be beneficial.

Who you are:

  • We're looking for a team player with an innovative mindset, prepared to develop a broad understanding of MCIA's work and the services it provides to members. You'll be a key member of this small but highly committed and productive team, where you'll needto be capable of independent working.
  • You do not need to be a motorcycle enthusiast, however, experience in the transport or automotive space will be of benefit. The industry is a fast paced & dynamic environment and as such you need to have high levels of energy and drive combined with a passionto understand what motivates the market and consumer.

This is a home-based role but you'll need to be able to travel to London regularly.

All qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, colour, religion, gender, gender identity or expression, sexual orientation, national origin, disability or age.
