Your New Role:

We have a fantastic opportunity for a
permanent Bridge Inspector to join our
Severn Bridges account in
Bristol.

Severn Bridges is working in partnership with National Highways on the Specialist Bridges Inspection & Maintenance contract to inspect and maintain three bridges in Southwest England over a 15-year period.


Covering the maintenance of three major structures; the 1.4km M5 Avonmouth Bridge, the M4 Prince of Wales Bridge which comprises three structures, the 2.1km Avon Viaduct, 948m Cable Stay and 2.077km Gwent Viaduct as well as the 1.6km M48 Severn Bridge, a suspension bridge that has the second highest tidal range in the world at 14.5m.

We are responsible for the cyclic maintenance, daily structure inspection checks and safety patrols as well as responding to any incidents that impact the structural integrity of the bridges.


Our roads and bridges are among the safest in the world and our partnership supports maintenance to high standards across all three bridges and provides the best possible quality of service to road users.


The
Bridge Inspector plays an important part in the inspection of all components of major bridge crossings on the Severn Bridges Inspection and Maintenance contract as required by the contract specification and relevant industry standards, and associated duties.


The standard hours of work are full time hours, 37.5 per week.

You will be responsible for:


  • Carrying out a variety of different inspections on the Severn Bridge, Prince of Wales Bridge, and the Avonmouth Bridge
  • Arranging special inspections and detailed investigations of defects, including weld and concrete inspections
  • Supervision of works, raising any nonconformities through detailed record keeping
  • Assisting in the delivery of inspection programmes
  • Optimising the output of the inspection process and ensuring that inspections and reports are completed and submitted in accordance with the contract
  • Ensuring that the works within the area of operations are completed safely (in accordance with the plan and method statements), and to the correct quality (in accordance with the contract, plan and company procedures and instructions)
  • Cooperating with the project team in order to undertake HSEA checks, and audits as agreed

We want to hear from you if have excellent communication skills and are comfortable at working at height and over water and be familiar with all aspect of Health and Safety related to this type of working.


Ideally you will be qualified in HNC/HND in Civil Engineering or in a similar relevant discipline, such as welding and steel fabrication. With demonstrable experience in the inspection of major bridges, preferably large cable supported estuarial crossings. You will have knowledge of maintenance works and personal highways safety training with an IOSH working safely or equivalent (SMSTS) qualification.


In
addition to this, it would be desirable if you have good knowledge and understanding of Health and Safety and CDM 2015, to help you hit the ground running, although this is not essential as we will provide you with the required development you need to bring you up to speed.
