We are delighted to advertise for a brand new and innovative role supporting medicines optimisation, tailored to Pharmacy Assistants.


You will be working at ward level, in close conjunction with the clinical pharmacy team, caring for your patient's to manage medicines as per training provided.


You will also be an integral part of a multi-skilled Dispensary team, carrying out Final Accuracy Checking, again with appropriate training provided.


This is a "first-of-its-kind" role for Pharmacy Assistants in this Trust, and if you are an ambitious, forward-thinking and proactive individual, who is committed to be part of a diverse Pharmacy team which supports each other, then you will fit right in.

Undertake general pharmaceutical duties under the supervision of a Section Manager or deputy, assisting in the provision of a safe and effective Pharmacy service in line with current policies, procedures and legal requirements.


The MOCATO performs a wide range of duties within the Pharmacy Department, that help the Pharmacists & Technicians to provide a comprehensive medicines optimisation, dispensing and distribution service.


Work within the dispensary where duties include dispensing a variety of prescription types, including but not limited to outpatient prescriptions, electronic one-stop dispensing (eMM), discharge prescriptions (TTOs) and controlled drugs.

Final Accuracy Checking a variety of prescriptions as per SOPs.

Work within patient services and at Ward Level undertaking medicines optimisation and discharge duties.

This will include assessing patients own medicines, ensuring they are suitable for use in hospital, one-stop dispensing to wards in preparation for patients discharge, and maintaining and ordering non-stock medicines for patients.


Gloucestershire Hospitals NHS Trust (GHT) is a large NHS trusts, with two sites; Gloucestershire Royal and Cheltenham General serving all of Gloucestershire.

The pharmacy department has approximately 240 staff across both sites, and provides dispensary services, medicines information, procurement services and a full clinical service to wards.

There is a regular free shuttle bus allowing easy transport between hospitals, both of which are located in the city/town centres with access to shops and cafes.


Pharmacy is committed to supporting the Trust to deliver its vision of best care for everyone, we strive to provide the whole team with the necessary skills and ongoing support to make a real difference to patient care, including a program to develop prescribing roles.

We are at the forefront of many exciting projects including the recently introduced electronic prescribing system, a pharmacist led orthopaedic admission service and many projects to encourage the sustainable use of medicines within the Trust.
