Job summary:
Lead internal communications for Ofgem
Energy and the transition to net zero are headline news, so this role is an exciting opportunity to inform and engage internal colleagues across an organisation playing a key role in shaping the energy system of the future.
Our Colleagues currently see and hear a huge amount about their employer and the work they are doing in the media.
It will be your job, working with the Head of Media, to support them in acknowledging and understanding this huge public and political interest and ensuring, where possible, they hear directly from their leaders first, while supporting them in growing a thick skin so they can remain focused on their objectives.
Joining our communications profession as Head of Internal Communications, you'll take the lead on all communications across Ofgem's internal channels.
You'll lead a team to ensure the successful delivery of our communications strategy and identify opportunities to continually improve how we inform and engage colleagues in a way that motivates them, maximises their performance, and helps deliver the organisation's strategy most effectively.
This is a very exciting time to be at Ofgem with significant changes happening in how we communicate to our colleagues, how we organise ourselves through the new 'professions' approach and supporting our people through the energy crisis which continues to fill print and broadcast space every day.
Job description:
We're looking for someone with a detailed understanding of best practice in internal communications. You'll have experience of developing and delivering complex internal communication strategies and solid expertise within the internal communications space. With proven aptitude for leadership, you'll be a first-rate communicator both orally and when developing engaging content. You'll be able to think strategically, and act authentically as well as discretely when required. With experience of working in a fast-paced environment, you'll be comfortable consistently delivering under pressure.
Person specification:
The essential criteria for this role is:
Experience of leading an internal communications team, prioritising varied and complex workloads to tight deadlines, performing calmly in situations where rapid responses are critical.
- Expertise on internal communications best practice.
- Experience of communicating with different audiences in an engaging, impactful and inclusive way.
- Excellent written skills and ability to set tone and ensure exemplary communication standards across a variety of channels / media.
- Ability to absorb complex information quickly, and to communicate it to a nonexpert audience in a concise and engaging way.
