MCG Construction Recruitment has an excellent opportunity available for a Buyer in Skipton to purchase goods and services at competitive prices and in a timely manner, on a permanent basis, for an engineering process solutions and technologies provider in the water industry.


The Role:


  • Analyse and compare all suppliers / subcontractors to select the most suitable, who can deliver high quality products / services at competitive prices.
  • Negotiate with suppliers / subcontractors on terms and conditions, delivery times, prices, and quality to obtain the maximum benefit for the company and ensure adherence to the company policies and procedures.
  • Develop purchasing and sourcing strategies.
  • Work closely with project teams to ensure supplier / subcontractor selection processes encompass the technical requirements expected of the project.
  • Review and manage the supplier / subcontractor base to ensure consistency with the sourcing strategy and perform regular performance reviews of suppliers / subcontractors to ensure compliance with the company's needs.

The Requirements:


  • Desirably a degree or HND, but not essential.
  • Direct Water Industry background
  • Experience in a similar Buying/Procurement position
  • Understanding of supply chain management procedures
  • Excellent IT Skills
  • Full UK driving license, and flexibility to work and occasionally stay overnight anywhere in the UK.

  • Strong communication skills with the ability to influence positive outcomes whilst liaising and negotiating with suppliers / subcontractors.

  • The ability to collaborate with other departments and across different project teams.

  • Show strong levels or organisational skills especially when coordinating several suppliers / subcontractors and negotiations at the same time.


  • Flexible

  • Ability to meet the daytoday requirements even if this means occasionally travelling and staying away from home.


  • Technically Aware

  • Have an understanding and knowledge of construction related activities specific to water and wastewater treatment.


  • A Completer/Finisher

  • Proven track record of getting supplies delivered on time as required by the project programmes, and of


  • Commercial Awareness

  • The ability to stay up to date on the daily happenings and developments across the company and across the supply chain.
