A superb job opportunity has arisen for a Underwriting Manager to join a global multifaceted Insurance Provider and manage two multifunctional teams who have staff members both locally and based abroad.

This is an important and rewarding role that reports directly to the CEO based in the UK.

You are responsible for the underwriters in your area of the business as well as a reporting and analysis team.

This position had previously been held by a manager abroad so this is a great opportunity to come in, put your stamp on how the teams are managedand really make a positive change.

Salary = £55-63,000 per annum
Hybrid working = Office based for probation period and training. Then 3 days in the office, 2 days working from home


Key Responsibilities:


  • Management Responsibilities:
  • Effectively manage the day to day activities of the Technical team.
  • Where required, to travel to meetings and represent the your team. This includes internal meetings such as Team Meetings, Benchmark Reviews but also external meetings such as prospective or actual client meetings, reviews or conferences.
  • To train, mentor, support, and motivate the members of the team to achieve both company, team and individual goals and objectives.
  • To approve holidays, sickness, workload, and training requested.
  • To conduct one to ones, appraisals or other performance reviews a minimum of biannually.
  • To ensure that formal annual Appraisals' are carried out and recorded to the agreed processes and timescales.
  • Agree & implement training plans including time specific objectives for the team to aid their development.
  • Complete a monthly review of the performance of direct reports, their performance against objectives and their KPI's in order to identify areas for improvement and continual development of the team.
  • Produce monthly reports on departmental performance, identifying the reason and trends for nonachievement of KPI's and provide a corrective action report including timescales where issues are identified.
  • Technical Responsibilities:
  • Technical Pricing including for complex international (multi country, multicurrency) tenders and where required presenting to Underwriting Committees and Risk Management for validation.

  • Validate team pricing within Delegated Authority and underwriting guidelines.
  • Technical output, results, responsibilities and delivery of the Team.
  • Collaborating with local teams on new business tenders, won business implementation projects and existing business management.
  • Production of contractual documents (T&C, IPID, commercial Insurance contracts, reinsurance agreements, framework/distribution agreements etc) with the support of the Legal department.
  • Ensuring all decisions made are in line with Regulatory requirements and Company values.
  • Ensuring the profitability of all business underwritten by the company.
  • Must have experience within the insurance industry or similar financial services and have managed a technical underwriting, actuarial or risk management team
