The Head of Commercial Data Analysis is an incredibly key hire in the exciting new journey for Saga Media.

Saga Media aims to build the No.1 site globally for the fast growing over 50s market, providing a space where they feel seen, trusted, and celebrated.


Your role will be to enable the senior leadership team at Saga Media to view and understand everything about our online audience across our brand-new website and our substantial Newsletter readership.


You will be asked to build a suite of data reporting tools that will enable us not only to understand our audience, but also to provide actionable insight that will enable us to make decisions to help us meet both our content and commercial goals.


You will represent Saga Media within the wider Data & Analytics teams at Saga and you will help integrate the customer data from Saga Media with the rest of the group, working towards a shared one customer view of all activity across Saga.

The data team and strategy at Saga Media will be built in your image.

Not only will you decide the way that our data is presented but you will lead on all analysis and build a media reporting product that is truly world class.

Over time you will be responsible for building out the Saga Media data team, across engineering and analytical roles, determining what skillsets are needed to further our capabilities and drive the business forward.

Main Responsibilities

  • Working with the CRO and Commercial & Trading Director to develop a market leading media reporting platform. Encompassing information from existing tools and data sources, as well as identifying new data and insight that we need.
  • Working alongside the Chief Product Officer and Chief Audience Officer, to make sure their teams have all the data and insight they need across content, user engagement, advertising, affiliates, and audience in order for them to meet their business goals.
  • Building, hiring, and managing the brandnew commercial data team.
  • Providing data and insight for key strategic weekly, monthly, and annual meetings.
  • Attending senior management meetings to provide insight and analysis on key audience and commercial data.
  • Creating a multivariate testing framework and analytics suite so we can understand what works best for our page templates, audience and commercial partners.
  • Modelling a Lifetime Value model for our website customers so that we can maximise retention, commercial yield and website integrity in order to deliver on our Saga promise of exceptional experiences every day.
  • Working with the wider Saga business, across travel, insurance, and innovation teams to work on collaborative data projects that advance our one customer mission and help us maximise the lifetime value of our readers and customers.
  • Clear experience building and developing reporting suites across Media & Publishing companies.
  • Clear experience analysing and providing actionable business insight from complex data sets.
  • A strong understanding of the advertising and affiliate commercial and attribution models.
  • A strong understanding of online audience reporting tools, such as Google Analytics, Adobe, , SEMRush or similar.
  • A love of problem solving, and a desire to get stuck into very complex problems.
  • A desire to train, guide and promote diversity.
  • Willingness to travel occasionally to our offices.
  • Superb organisation skills.
  • Ability to work with external and internal stakeholders to quickly compromise and come to decisions.
  • Ability to understand the needs of our audiences and balance these against our commercial targets.
  • Focus on delivering to targets
  • 5+ years' experience working with Media and publishing businesses within a commercial data environment.
  • Good knowledge of the affiliate and ad markets in the UK and US.
  • A knowledge of eCommerce and affiliate data best practices
  • Experience developing dashboards to facilitate analysis of complex data sets.
  • Experience working with and managing the needs of multiple senior stakeholders across product & technology, audience, and commercial teams
