Do you want help shape services for children, young people, families and carers.

We are seeking a Lead Matron for Children and Young People to join our fantastic NHS Trust located in the breathtaking surroundings of the Lake District.

As a key member of our leadership team, you will play a pivotal role in delivering and improving the quality and safety of services within our Clinical Collaborative.


The Lead Matron is an essential role to support the delivery of high quality patient care through the provision of operational and clinical leadership to the quality matrons.

S/He will be a high profile figure ensuring a visible presence where children and young people access services across the Trust.

The Lead Matron will ensure that governance processes are embedded in the Collaborative

  • To provide;
- professional clinical leadership to wards and departments where children & young people are cared for on both sites
- provision of advice & understanding activity associated with patient care
- education & training accessed by a range of health professionals/employees
- leadership creating a culture of continuous improvement & excellence
- contemporary nursing care

  • To be responsible for;
- maintaining nursing & clinical care standards, taking lead for embedding nursing governance processes in line with Clinical Governance framework
- delivery of high quality safe services for patients/carers
- all qualified/non-qualified staff, including bank and agency, in your area

  • To lead components of the Clinical Governance agenda
  • To liaise with colleagues in development & reorganisation of services emphasising a patient focused approach, utilising care pathways
  • To advise on & contribute to achievement of national/local performance targets
  • To work with partner organisations and advise on patient affective service developments
  • To act as a role model for all wards/departments & encourage recruitment & retention of staff
  • Develop clinical practice by providing clinical/nursing leadership
  • Coordinate/chair meetings with patients/relatives/complainants who are emotionally upset, angry, aggressive and potentially abusive. Acting as a mediator to resolve complaints, issues/concerns, negotiating and implementing action plans
