Description

The role of a Special Educational Needs (SEN) Tutor is to deliver alternative and high-quality teaching and learning mainly on a one-to-one basis to students with special educational needs, social, mental, and emotional health challenges.

The tutoring sessions may take place in identified and agreed locations, such as the student's home, school, or external venue.

As a SEN Tutor, you will use creative and varied teaching methods to engage students who are out of mainstream education and help support their development and progression of learning, with the goal of integrating them back into mainstream/specialist settings.

Your role will be to work on developing the identified areas of weakness and ensuring that students are assessed for their learning and development.


Key Responsibilities:


Teach:

  • Plan, prepare and deliver teaching and learning for individual pupils with special educational needs.
  • Work from identified teaching areas, including SEN.
  • Teach following the national curriculum as appropriate for the needs of the individual.
  • Use relevant resources and equipment.
  • Provide feedback to pupils.
  • Adapt materials and delivery to meet the needs of the learners.

Track and monitor progress:


  • Assess learning and development for each student.
  • Manage behavior and dynamics.
  • Communicate with parents, schools, and the Local Authority.
  • Understand Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP).

Administrative/Other:


  • Keep an uptodate register.
  • Complete weekly reports.
  • Create session plans for the duration of the training programme.
  • Complete evaluation reports.
  • Attend training and meetings as required.
  • Keeping up to date with own Continuing Professional Development (CPD) and recording of this CPD.
  • Liaising with the SEN Lead and other relevant parties.
  • Attend and participate in meetings including Tribunals.
  • Work with organizational systems.
  • Any other key duties that may be asked.
  • Liaise with the class teacher if the work is schoolbased.

  • Follow LA/school policy.
  • Respect confidentiality.
  • Work in line with General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), safeguarding, Equality and Diversity, and PREVENT policies.

Salary:
£25.00-£30.00 per hour


Schedule:
Monday to Friday
