Description

GENERAL

The Women's Centre Cornwall has grown from its early roots as a Rape Crisis Centre into an innovative, award-winning feminist organisation which provides a wide range of services for women and girls in our communities.

Our work with survivors of sexual and domestic violence is our core specialism as we believe that there can be no real gender equality without a complete cessation of violence against women.

In addition, we provide community-based activities across Cornwall and support women ex-offenders across Cornwall, Devon and Dorset and HMP Eastwood Park in Gloucestershire.

PURPOSE

The purpose of the project is to determine whether the provision of trauma stabilisation support to women on probation, improves their physical and mental wellbeing and reduces reoffending risk.

This project is specifically for women on probation who have experienced sexual violence.

Through a safe and trusting relationship with the project's practitioner, women will learn about the effects of trauma on the body, and how to achieve emotional stability - e.g., ability to calm the body, regulate impulses, self-soothe & manage post-traumatic symptoms.
