Main Purpose of the Job
The Land Development Sector is a multi-disciplinary team focussed on providing consultancy services to the private sector, engaging in projects from allocation and promotion right through the entire planning process to construction and practical completion.
Within the Land Development Sector, the Drainage & Flood Risk team work on a diverse range of projects where our specific technical input is required to assess flood risk and provide bespoke mitigation designs, provide sustainable drainage strategies and support with drainage infrastructure detailed designs and technical approval.

We are seeking technically competent, motivated people to join our team to support our continued growth.As a Flood Risk Consultant (all grades) you will contribute to our flood risk and environmental services offering by working on the flood risk side of projects, including Environmental Statements, Flood Risk Assessments, hydrological assessments and hydraulic modelling as well as other environmental aspects.
EssentialPreferred
Qualifications:
- Degree in Geography, Environmental Science or other environmentalrelated discipline
- HNC or HND
- Chartership of relevant institution (CIWEM, IEMA, CEnv)
Graduate Level
- Understanding of environment and flood mechanisms
- Working in a team to prepare outputs
- Using and managing data from various sources
Consultant Level
- Minimum 2 years' experience in relevant field
- Preparation of Flood Risk Assessments for variety of schemes
- Basic understanding of planning system
- Knowledge of key stakeholders and their role
Senior / Principal Level
- Minimum 5 years' experience
- Track record of engaging with stakeholders and presenting flood risk work
- Preparation of appropriate ES Chapters
- Constructing or running hydraulic models or understanding of outputs and limitations
- Wider environmental understanding (ground contamination, geology, ecology)
- Preparation of outline business case for flood alleviation schemes

Main Duties & Responsibilities
- Actively engaging with a range of projects to manage and support delivery of the team's workload
- Liaise with various stakeholders to obtain relevant data, discuss and agree principles where appropriate
- Prepare Flood Risk Assessments in line with prevailing guidance to identify where risks are present and provide sitespecific mitigation options. This includes using data from a variety of sources to assess risk both quantitatively and qualitatively.
- Carry out site visits to observe local conditions, identify watercourses and other hydrological features of interest
- Support the senior management team in managing projects and client relationships
- Where appropriate, carry out hydrological catchment analysis to quantify river flows, and construct hydraulic models to predict potential floodplain extents
- Many sites are of a scale requiring Environmental Statement chapters to support in preparing these
- Work with the wider team to prepare surface water drainage strategies, using SuDS principles to manage water quantity and quality.
