They are looking for 3 Site Operatives to work out of the depot in Avonmouth Docks.

Job Purpose:


Responsible for the operation of a section within the Manufacturing function, supporting the Manager with the day-to-day management of their manufacturing area, overseeing a group of members and ensuring an efficient operation in achieving business targets.

Provide leadership and line management to the team, coordinating their workloads, providing support to ensure that the team delivers, monitoring any issues, and ensuring production targets, Key Performance Indicators (KPIs), and quality standards are met in order to meet the requirements of the customer.

Develop the team by focusing on individual performance and support requirements to achieve high standards, whilst fostering a culture of working safely.

Work under general supervision, reviewed by Management.

Decisions and results have an impact on the function and their success. Performance affects the function's image.

Reporting to the Production Manager you will lead a small team of Site Operatives


The main purpose is to manage the Grain Intake and silo operation working to documented procedures to maintain a high standard of health & safety, food safety, equipment operation, hygiene, and quality.

Training and daily supervision of the team and working to improve the efficiencies of the silo area as a primary role.

You will provide and coordinate the support role for weighbridge operations and assist with stock taking. This person will learn the role of the stock control and to assist with reducing operational variances.


You will be trained in Milling functions including product sampling and test with the longer-term purpose to gain the skills to be able to fulfil the role of a Miller in the future.


Main Responsibilities

  • Perform all silo duties; from wheat intake; wheat transfer and out loading of products. (Wheatfeed). Learn the wheat testing routines within the TC lab.
  • Competence level of weighbridge operation and accurate stock control records, assisting in problem solving deviations on stocks.
  • Food safety traceability within the silo systems and the wider site to present documented findings in a timely manner.
  • Assist the Millers in the operation and control of the plant equipment, mill operating systems, screen room and finished product handling.
  • Ensure that the Master Sanitation Audit performance measures are met within the silo building, with the effective level of cleaning (liaison with Site Services Supervisor).
  • Sampling and analysis of raw materials, internal stocks and finished products, as required to produce the quality of products as required by the company.
  • Ensure that all work is performed with due diligence and in conformation of all current and future relevant legislation and company procedures.
  • Conduct Integrated Pest Management (IPM) in accordance with company procedures and standards, lead this for the silo area.
  • Assist the Millers and Process Technicians and conduct plant maintenance within the individuals' skill base, to ensure that all plant is operating to its optimum.
  • Ensuring milling downtime is minimised to ensure optimum plant efficiency.
  • Training of the Site Operatives, from induction to competence levels then regular supervision and reviews.
  • Identifying improvement ideas and cost saving opportunities.
  • To build a strong personal development plan across departmental requirements to increase performance excellence across the site.

Qualification and experience required for the role:

  • (University degree, diplomas, specialisation in., work/job experiences etc.)
  • Good secondary education, particularly in mathematics and English
  • Work experience in a production environment.
  • Leadership experience.
  • Work towards the full UK Flour Millers Exams
  • Relevant formal qualifications in Safety & Health and HACCP level 3 in Food safety
