Altum Consulting are excited to be working exclusively with an award-winning engineering firm to secure a commercial-minded Financial Controller. The business has grown exponentially in the past 24 months and boasts clients such Microsoft, BT and Red Bull.
The business is family owned/managed and has been a leading specialist for the past 30 years. Due to a recent retirement the need to hire a Financial Controller has arisen.
The role will report directly to the Group Finance Director and will play a key role in ensuring the smooth and efficient operation of the firm's finance function.
We are looking for an individual who is a qualified accountant with significant years PQE,familiar with managing a finance team and with experience of high-value project accounting.
Responsibilities,- Managing and controlling the firm's finance function, overseeing the smooth operation of the accounting function and its constituent components:
- Supporting the Group Finance Director & Executive Committee on managing the firm's overall profit, revenue and cash flow.
- Maintaining and continually identify opportunities ensuring the department's internal control systems and procedures, in particular with regards to billing, payments, cash and payroll.
- Responsible for managing the yearend audit and accounts preparation process: preparing the yearend file, ensuring correct account treatment, preparing profit schedules, managing the audit field work and reviewing the financial statements.
- Controlling the firm's VAT function and review returns each quarter. Keeping up to date with VAT rules changes and advising the firm on any VAT issues.
- Preparing, establishing and implementing accounting policies, ensuring adherence to IFRS and any relevant legislation.
- Demonstrating an enthusiasm for developing, coaching and mentoring staff members and guiding their training, learning and development, including progress against development plans and objectives.
- Administering the firm's accounting and reporting systems, ensuring they are correctly maintained and accurate
- Communicating with the accounting system provider on any support or technical issues.
- Reviewing the monthly management accounts prepared by the Senior Management Accountant, as well as monthly fee and profit analysis schedules and related analysis
- Review monthly cash flow forecast and cash flow actuals against forecast. Working closely with the Group Finance Director to highlight any variances to the firm and forecast future cash in
Required Skills and Experience,
- Full accounting qualification (ACA, CIMA or ACCA)
- Strong technical accounting skills with minimum 3 years PQE
- Practice/audit background preferred
- Advanced Excel skills
- Excellent analytical skills
- Strong communication skills
- Experience of project accounting desired
- Experience of leading a team and managing junior team members
