Senior Legal Officer - Litigation, Regulatory & Community Team


To provide effective legal advice and support to the council, its committees, officers and external clients and support the work of the Litigation Regulatory and Community Team.


This will involve providing legal advice and representation appropriate to grade to the organisation and external clients; being responsible for court cases within area of specialism under the supervision of the specialist lawyer; undertaking advocacy, representation and advice in courts, tribunals, committees and panels as relevant.


You will keep legal knowledge up to date, carry out legal research and maintain a thorough knowledge of existing and new legislation in relation to practice area.


You will provide support and assistance to legal officers in the Litigation Regulatory and Community Team and assist lawyers in providing training sessions to the legal services division and council officers and customers.


Although the post holder will specialise in an area of the law, they will be required to work flexibility and with appropriate training work across several areas.


This post requires experience in areas of law and practice relevant to the team and some legal qualification (or be working towards one).


Further, the post required some advocacy and negotiation experience relevant to the work undertaken and the ability to work on own initiative, under pressure and to meet deadlines.


You must be able to anticipate and identify complex issues and high risk cases to Line Manager in good time to support good governance and decision making.

You must be able to provide high level qualified/paralegal
_ a_dvice and support on more complex cases in a local government context.
