We're on the lookout for a Head of Technology Operations to join our Technology department.

This 'hands on' senior leadership role will be responsible for the delivery of the group technology strategy and for providing a secure and resilient IT service underpinning the delivery of efficient and easy to use customer focused services.

This will include management and oversight of the Nucleus corporate estate, which includes business partnering, IT change and transition management, infrastructure management and supplier oversight.


You will hold significant experience working with tier one platform technology suppliers such as FNZ and Bravura with excellent working knowledge of their contracted services and experience managing such providers to ensure they deliver what our business requires.

You will be comfortable deputising for the Director of Technology and Change and you will lead, guide and influence stakeholders across the business and help shape decisions that will have a strategic impact on our business.


You have extensive operational management experience with a firm understanding of what is required to oversee the effective running of your department within a financially regulated environment this including workflow management, capacity demand and planning, adherhance to budgets and management of risks and controls.


As an outward facing role, you will hold excellent C-suite stakeholder engagement skills and will provide confidence in the service delivery model and ensuring the technology strategy continues to meet the needs as the business grows.


Key Accountabilities:

As a key member of the senior leadership team you will:

  • Develop and drive the implementation of the group technology strategy
  • Own all IT supplier relationships ensuring they are managed inline with our corporate framework and deliver value to the business
  • Collaborate with platform technology suppliers, owning the relationship and aligning to our business goals to safeguard the viability of our operating model and to support business growth
  • Leverage technology to enable us to grow and modernise how we work and service our customers
  • Lead IT business as usual communications to the business and chair the IT Steering Committee
  • Ensure licence, regulatory, data protection and best practice standard compliance
  • Expert on emerging trends and technologies within the IT and platform industry and able to evaluate their potential impact on the organisation
  • Support any M&A activity taking an active lead in system integration projects
  • Leading on business case production and maintenance
  • Lead and oversee IT projects from planning to execution, ensuring they are completed on time, within budget and in line with the organisations goals
  • Identify the skills and resources needed for IT project deliveries
  • Design and develop IT service delivery processes and tools that focus on quality customer outcomes
  • Leadership of IT Service Delivery, Infrastructure, IT Support and Application Support functions
  • Demonstrate excellent business and financial acumen, ensuring the effective management and oversight of the department including the deployment of resources, budgets and financial controls to deliver exceptional business results
  • Develop and manage the IT budget, ensuring funds are allocated appropriately and spent efficiently
  • Ownership of IT policies ensuring they are regularly maintained and applicable for the business
  • Superior knowledge of platform technology and key suppliers such as Bravura and FNZ
  • Managing risks, issues and resources across your teams
  • Lead, develop and mentor people in line with our people strategy and vision creating a high performing team and a clear line of succession
  • Deputise for the Director of Technology and Change where required
  • Undertake any other duties to achieve the purpose of the role

Key Competencies:


  • Extensive leadership experience creating high performing teams in a complex and diverse environment
  • Extensive wealth management experience, understanding how platform businesses like Nucleus operate including knowledge of core regulatory bodies such as the FCA and PRA.
  • Significant experience and proven track record of working with outsourced service providers and technology suppliers
  • Extensive service delivery experience
  • Excellent stakeholder management and negotiation skills, including ability to build relationships and influence at all levels.
  • Well developed collaborative working practices
  • Excellent contractual knowledge of third parties, with significant experience managing tier one platform technology providers such as FNZ and Bravura
  • Excellent business acumen with significant experience in managing business and technology risk
  • Strong resource and budget management experience
  • Expert level IT skills including all elements of Microsoft Office
  • Excellent presentation, written and verbal communication skills
  • A flexible approach with the ability to remain calm
