Information Systems Services is seeking to appoint a Linux Systems Administrator to play a key role in the management of services provided to circa 30,000 staff & students within the university as well as external organisations including partner institutions & commercial clients.

Services include critical network systems such as DHCP, DNS and Network Access Control. These services are currently hosted on multiple, virtualised and physical Linux servers.


Applicants for this post will combine their knowledge and experience of Linux systems administration, virtualization platforms and scripting languages with the ability to communicate effectively with staff and stakeholders at all levels and a willingness to assist in the development of new services.

The role will involve, but not be limited to:


  • Monitoring of performance and ensuring effectiveness of operation
  • Through the Service Desk, take ownership and resolve in a timely and professional manner referred queries
  • Proactively identifying, diagnosing, and resolving problems
  • Producing documentation and guidance for ISS and end users
  • Liaising with vendors and support staff at other institutions
  • Contributing to the service improvement process
