This role will be based at the BGS headquarters in Keyworth, Nottingham

UKRI Pay Band E

Pay Band E salary range is £39,748 to £44,166 per annum (depending on qualifications and experience)

Full-time - 37 hours a week (some flexible working options may be available including hybrid/remote working - however, regular attendance on-site is required - at least 4 days per week)

The British Geological Survey (BGS) is an applied geoscience research centre that belongs to UK Research and Innovation (UKRI) and is affiliated to the Natural Environment Research Council (NERC).

It is a world leading geological survey whose core missionis to inform government of science related to the subsurface and to undertake applied research to solve earth and environmental issues, both in the UK and globally.

It is funded directly by UKRI, as well as through research grants and private sector contracts.

BGS has an annual budget of approximately £60 million and employs 630 people.


It has two main sites:

a head office in Keyworth near Nottingham, and the Lyell Centre, which is a collaboration with Heriot Watt University in Edinburgh.

BGS works with more than150 private sector organisations, has close links with 40 universities, and sponsors approximately 100 PhD students each year.

BGS is looking for a highly motivated and experienced Learning and Development (L&D) Business Partner to join the BGS Human Resources and Learning and Development Team at our headquarters in Keyworth, Nottingham.

About the role
The L&D Business Partner will work within the Human Resources (HR) function.

The purpose of the role is design manage and deliver an effective customer focused L&D service which develops BGS staff and supports the delivery of the BGS business plan.


The L&D Business Partner will work with the Head of Human Resources and the BGS Science and Technical Training Manager to deliver learning and development that meets the BGS business needs, adhering to UKRI policies, employment, legislation and best practice.


The L&D business partner will support the Head of HR and team in progressing a range of HR related projects, strategic objectives and organisational development initiatives.


About you


Line management experience is an important part of the role and you will have experience of leading and motivating a team in an L&D environment.


You must also have experience of effectively managing a L&D budget and knowledge of procurement processes in a training environment.
