What is the job role?


To continue with our growth plans we are searching for an experienced
Fabrication Foreman to join our team at Gael Force Engineering Limited based in Inverness.


The role of Fabrication Foreman is to manage all aspects of the fabrication squad, ensuring that fabricated items are manufactured to the required quality, in the most economical and safe manner, and delivered to meet production programme and budget.


At all times to support the maximum level of co-operation between the various company departments and to assist in the cross flow and recording of information and data.


Gael Force Engineering are part of the Gael Force Group, who specialise in the building of marina pontoons, breakwaters, designing and building of feed barge operations and other aquaculture related engineering activities.


Principal Duties and Responsibilities:

***- Manage the day to day organisation of the fabrication squad - allocating tasks to the appropriate workshop personnel, giving consideration to their experience, capability and competence to complete the task.

  • To ensure the teamwork within a given time frame and strive to meet projected targets and program deadlines.
  • Work closely with the Fabrication Supervisors, involving them in all aspects of the work.
  • Liaise with the Project Manager, informing of finished products, their location and anticipated delivery dates.
  • Liaise with buyer regarding purchasing of materials and logistics.
  • Monitor absence and punctuality of all employees within the fabrication squad, keeping accurate records to be relied upon at appraisal or disciplinary hearings.
  • To monitor Health & Safety compliance of all employees within the workshop. Reporting and recording observations to Management monthly.
  • Monitor competency and performance of workshop personnel, reporting and recording observations as necessary.
  • Assist in carrying out yearly appraisals of workshop personnel.
  • Report any incidents, accidents within the workplace, to Management at the earliest opportunity.
  • Report any grievances or matters that may require disciplinary action to Management at the earliest opportunity.
  • Working with management to strive to provide safe systems of work and implementing them in the workshop environment.
  • Demonstrate a high standard of Health & Safety awareness and housekeeping.
  • To Manage Workshop Quality Control and maintain traceability of fabricated items, to conform with BS EN legislation.
  • Report and record nonconformities.
  • Manage workshop timesheets, ensuring accuracy for input in to Project Management program.
  • Read and understand fabrication drawings.
  • Liaise with Draughtsmen on drawing issues and design.
  • Ensure all workshop machinery is maintained in a safe and efficient condition. Keeping inspection records and organising replacement or repair as necessary.
  • Oversee the training of apprentice workers allocated to the workshop.
  • Promote a high work ethic within the workshop at all times.
  • Demonstrate a good knowledge of all welding processes and their procedures
  • Demonstrate a good understanding of all workshop equipment and the correct usage. Including COSHH regulations and the safe handling and storage of gases.
  • Train personnel within the workshop as necessary on the use of machinery with specific regard to Health & Safety.
  • Demonstrate a good understanding of all types of finishes relevant to the trade.
  • Assist in all aspects of a workshop environment.
  • Perform all reasonable duties and tasks as requested by the company.

What youll need:


Essential:


  • Staff management of fabrication squad and running a busy workshop.
  • Time served welding and fabrication experience.
  • The understanding of all technical drawings and sketches.
  • The understanding of welding procedures.
  • The formation of suitable cutting list.
  • Safe manual and mechanical handling of materials.
  • The safe and accurate cleaning up of sheet, plate and sectional steels using files and grinders.
  • The accurate marking out of sheet, plate and sectional steel.
