Perton Manor is a 50 bedded nursing home in Perton, South Staffs, on the outskirts of Wolverhampton.

The sister home, Woodford House is a 40 bedded home in Trysull Village, on the outskirts of Wombourne, South Staffs.

Both homes care for people living with dementia and other complex mental health requirements.

We are currently recruiting for a Full Time Maintenance operative.

You must have proven ability in competently completing day-to-day repairs to a safe and high standard, in a timely manner.

You must be able to demonstrate good initiative and strong communication skills.

You will be 'on-call' for advice and action in any emergencies which may arise 'out of hours' and hold a full UK driving license.

SALARY IS NEGOTIABLE DEPENDING ON QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE. AS AN EXAMPLE, THIS INCLUDES THOSE WITH A PREVIOUS TRADE SUCH AS ELECTRICIANS/PLUMBERS ETC.

This position is Full Time - 40 hours per week, working Monday to Friday 8.30am to 5.00pm. Some flexibility may be required.

A full UK driving licence and transport is an essential requirement.


About us:


You will join a growing social care business, tailoring care to people living with dementia and other mental health/complex needs.

The successful applicant will be responsible for maintaining the safety and upkeep of a busy Nursing Home for our clients, working across both homes when required.

Care is delivered to those who have vocal behaviours such as shouting out, swearing, being sexually inappropriate. Physical behaviours including hitting, spitting, biting, kicking, throwing. At times it can be a challenging environment, so a positive attitude, compassion and resilience are important.


Key responsibilities include:


  • Report directly into the Operations Director, with responsibility to the Home Manager on 'daytoday' maintenance issues.
  • To arrange and ensure routine and planned maintenance tasks around the premises are carried out on time and in accordance with Company procedures.
  • Undertake regular Daily, Weekly and Monthly Maintenance Audit checks and complete all mandatory paperwork, in line with Company Policy & Procedures, to ensure CQC compliance.
  • Perform routine maintenance tasks around the building and work closely with the Head Housekeeper, including promoting regular checks for good Health & Safety practices throughout the building.
  • Attend all mandatory training day/courses on and off site, as and when required.
  • To be the main point of contact for the fire officer and CQC inspector for maintenance, be fully conversant in all areas be able to answer questions and offer information effectively.
  • To undertake health & safety checks such as routine alarm testing (fire etc.), visual checks of fire detection/fighting equipment, emergency lighting, PAT testing, etc.
  • Maintain the Care Centre's internal and external environment by completing all repairs as and when required.
  • Report and action any known defects to appliances, damaged furniture / equipment and any other potential hazards to the Home Manager, who will advise accordingly.
  • Carry out decoration as and when required in order to maintain standard of Care home.
  • Ensure all ventilation units and lights are kept clean. Replace any defective light bulbs / diffusers.
  • Test all portable appliances as specified in Company procedures.
  • Test and record water temperatures as specified in Company procedures.
  • Maintain the upkeep of a "Maintenance Book" in which defects are recorded by Staff Members. Use this book to carry out repairs/replacements daily.
  • Assist with cleaning as and when required e.g. carpets.
  • Conducting general repairs, for example: painting, plastering, hanging shelves/doors, basic electrical repairs, gardening.
