One of our highly respected clients is seeking a Food Buyer in Slough and offering an excellent working environment, stability, fantastic development opportunities and a great salary and benefits package.

Key responsibilities

  • To negotiate and manage the lowest nett delivered product cost for Bidfood (including and not limited to the best cost effective route to market options, a timely tender management programme, and ensuring that every interface with suppliers allows for reduction in cost, increasing income and extracting value)
  • To ensure the accurate maintenance of product and cost price files on the central operating system preventing any margin losses and data errors
  • To negotiate, generate manage all Buying Income Terms with suppliers
  • To ensure an effective supplier selection process for trading with Bidfood and their compliance to the Commercial guides and Inventory Terms Conditions
  • To proactively be aware of supplier, market and competitor developments across all areas of responsibility and to take appropriate action to ensure that Bidfood obtains and maintains a leading market profile.
  • To actively support and implement the Range Optimisation Control process in order to achieve an effective balance range offering for depots, sales customers
  • To work in an effective and proactive manner with the Category Manager to deliver range opportunities, NPD (brand own brand), and the overall category strategies as agreed and identified by Insights, Commercial Board, and overall company sales development plan
  • To negotiate and deliver an annual promotional advertising plan in line with the B2B marketing plans (incl Safari, Legends, marketplace, local General Manager regional needs)
  • To work with Supply Chain to identify on going poor performing suppliers less than 98.5%, (for in bound deliveries) Thereafter negotiate and implement an ongoing Service Level Agreement for loss of profit compensation
  • To work with Supply Chain in delivering the Income associated with logistics efficiencies, including any grey market purchases, LED's, bulk deals, backhauling, consolidation, and all supplier back door saving opportunities
  • To actively support the specific purchasing Strategies of all the Specialist Businesses, plus any General Manager's local activity needs without compromising any National agreements

Person specification:


  • Influencing and negotiating skills in managing product costs and income generation.
  • Commercially aware purchasing professional with category food market knowledge
  • Ability to develop and implement category plans with the Category Manager and achieve annual targets.
  • Operate an effective Range Management Programme with agreed set of KPI's (ROC )
  • Effective communicator at all levels
  • An awareness of latest industry practices and supplier bases
  • Financially astute in managing reconciling income and terms, plus budget setting.
  • Managing multiple tasks stakeholders internally externally
  • Always implement Best Practice and continually look at innovative and enhanced ways of working to improve better develop outputs results.
