The Company:


ER Recruitment is working with a local, respected charity who are recruiting for a Café Manager to deliver profitable, high-quality catering and hospitality services within the café for both public and private events.


Reporting into the Retail Catering Manager, the successful applicant will closely assist on the development of new products and menus alongside maintaining standards.


Role & Responsibilities of the Café Manager:

  • Day-to-day (shift) management and delegation of tasks for the café and its staff members whilst also supporting on recruitment, staff reviews etc.
  • Promote and deliver a highquality menu for external catering
  • Generate new business opportunities to provide external catering services
  • Build rapport with existing and regular customers, and invite new individuals by keeping social media platforms up to date
  • Manage stock levels to ensure that they meet the business demand, perform stock takes and rotate stock to ensure that it is used in correct date order to minimise waste
  • Purchase foods listed on the approved supplier lists only and liaise with the Retail Catering Manager if any deviation from this is required
  • To manage and ensure that food is prepared, cooked and presented to agreed standards
  • Produce products in line with seasonal special promotions
  • To be knowledgeable of the ingredients of all food produced at the counter service and menus to enable you to discuss and potentially adjust menus to suit dietary requirements with potential customers
  • Maintain staffing budget and manage rota as agreed with the Retail Catering Manager
  • Ensure the team work to best practice, comply with all agreed procedures and support the Retail Catering Manager with the development and mentoring of other team members
  • Responsible for cash handling and till systems
  • Support administration responsibilities of the café
  • Manage back of house related areas, to include goods in and out, all rubbish and recycling; ensuring high standards of working practice, safety, and cleanliness at all times
  • Assist in achieving the agreed GP of food sales
  • Mentor the staff in how to provide the best customer experience possible, and always display and promote the behaviours of excellent customer service
  • Ensure that the premises are secure, locked and left safe at the end of each working day or delegate this responsibility to a competent person
  • Be sure that all work areas and equipment are in excellent working order at all times and managed in line with guidelines and Health and Safety procedures
  • Ensure that all areas within kitchen, restaurant, store and delivery are in line with full legislative compliance to achieve excellent standards, meeting the required Food Safety standards
  • Record and monitor refrigeration/freezer temperatures, report any issues to the Retail Catering Manager
  • Support the Retail Catering Manager in the implementation of any changes to work practices following any audits or inspections
  • Ensure that the highest levels of customer service are demonstrated at all times by all members of the catering team towards staff, volunteers, customers, contractors and patients

About You as the Café Manager:

  • Experience in a similar role
  • Minimum NVQ Level 1 in Hospitality and Catering or Professional Cookery
  • Level 2 Food Hygiene or equivalent is desirable
  • Line management experience
  • Flexibility to work occasional Saturdays as the café is open Monday to Saturday
  • Dietary and allergen awareness
  • Health and Safety and COSHH awareness
  • Knowledge of an EPOS system and banking
  • Excellent work ethic and a positive cando attitude
  • A great communicator who is able to build strong relationships and rapport with staff, volunteers, customers, contractors and patients
