  • In Wessex we want to create a diverse workplace where people are respected, valued and listened to. It is our ambition to champion diversity through building a workforce as diverse as the communities we serve.

This is a new role being created as part of a virtual project team, to support the Environment Agency's statutory obligations and wider partnership working for an exciting new development in the area.

The role is currently for an 18-month assignment, however this may be extended and/or made into a permanent role, depending on the ongoing support required.

This role will provide an interesting and rare opportunity to work collaboratively, supporting a nationally important development alongside protecting the local environment, including the Somerset Levels and Moors.

You will be expected to provide technical leadership to manage our Water Level Management assets and operations.

You will need to look at possible landscape-scale changes and provide technical supervision and assurance both from an asset management perspective and as a regulator.

It will be crucial for you to be comfortable innovating and using novel approaches & ideas to solve problems.

This will be a varied role in which you will utilise your expertise to support the delivery of local outcomes, including advising teams and external partners in the execution of asset management activities, as well as developing and implementing policy & processes changes.

Focusing on whole life-cycle asset management, you will help the EA make long term investments that deliver multiple benefits, such as increased climate resilience, reduced carbon emissions, environmental net gain, as well as improved recreation and other societal benefits, in alignment with international asset management standard ISO55000.

As a customer-focused role, you will be confident in engaging, building, and maintaining local relationships with internal and external stakeholders and enjoy collaborating and connecting with others.

  • The team 1
  • It is expected that the role will be a fulltime, core member of a new virtual project team, which will be managed by an Account Manager and will comprise of Technical Specialists, focused on supporting the development.

However, you will report to the local Asset Performance Team, which sits within Flood and Coastal Risk Management Operations so that you can benefit from a friendly and experienced, multi-skilled team of technical advisors.

  • Experience/skills required 1
  • An asset management qualification or equivalent experience is desirable but experience in delivering engineered projects/natural landscaping projects will be considered. Experience in coastal and fluvial flood risk management is highly desirable and an awareness of health, safety and wellbeing in a construction or operational environment is preferable.
A genuine interest for the region and the sustainable management of its natural resources is paramount. The role requires excellent relationship management skills and the ability to inspire and lead others. You will be able to manage multiple projects simultaneously and work independently and as part of a team.

You will be able to innovate and use new approaches and ideas to solve problems, be comfortable with information technology, have an aptitude for leading and coaching others and you will be skilled in work prioritisation.

A flexible outlook is essential for adapting to the changing environment of a large organisation.

  • Contact and additional information 1The role can be based at either our Horizon House, Blandford, Bridgwater or Exeter Offices, with flexible home working included. As a dispersed team, there is an occasional need to travel. Flexible working arrangements are in place to support your work/life balance. Please get in touch if you'd like to discuss part time working.
Interviews will be held using Microsoft Teams.
Applications will be "blind" assessed using your answers to the competency questions.
