Editorial Assistant, Academic Editorial

The opportunity
Bloomsbury Academic publish high quality print and digital resources for the higher education market globally. We are looking for an enthusiastic and organised Editorial Assistant to join our friendly Student Learning publishing team.


Reporting to the Publisher, and working closely with other editorial, digital, marketing, sales and production colleagues, the Editorial Assistant will have the opportunity to work on a variety of market-leading textbooks and digital resources for undergraduate students studying Psychology, Sociology and Politics.

The role

  • Supporting the team to meet annual commissioning, publishing and profitability targets
  • Helping to coordinate and develop textbooks and digital resources through all stages of the publishing process
  • Using publishing systems to set up titles and manage editorial processes
  • Assisting in the editorial workflow for digital content, including using content management systems
  • Conducting course, competitor and other market research
  • Managing the peer review process for new books and new editions
  • Assessing and preparing manuscripts for handover to production
  • Checking content for third party material and arranging copyright permissions
  • Drafting cover design briefs, companion website briefs, and writing cover copy
  • Checking proofs and cover proofs for titles in production
  • Liaising with authors, and colleagues across all departments
  • Assisting with backlist management
  • Providing input for sales and marketing activities

Knowledge, skills and experience

The ideal applicant for this role is:

  • An excellent communicator (written and verbal)
  • Able to build effective working relationships with colleagues and external contacts
  • Meticulous, with excellent attention to detail and accuracy
  • Selfmotivated with a positive, cando attitude
  • Is able to work as part of a team as well as independently
  • Able to demonstrate initiative and aptitude for finding solutions to problems

Additional information
The role is a full-time (37.5 hours per week) permanent position

Annual Salary is £25,000


The role is based at our London office 50 Bedford Square, London, WC1B 3DP on a hybrid working pattern of 2 days office based / 3 days home based (or fully office based if preferred).


Allocated office days for this role are:
Wednesdays and Thursdays
