About The Role
This is an exciting opportunity to be part of our Special Waste Service as an Environmental Enforcement Officer.

In this role, you will primarily be undertaking borough-wide investigations in relation to littering and fly tipping offences on the public highway, as well as promoting behaviour change by engaging with residents and businesses alike.

You will have the opportunity to develop your skills through training and working with the team to carry out targeted enforcement in hotspot locations across the borough.


About The Team You'll Be Working In
The Council's Environmental Services is dedicated to meet the needs of the Borough's residents.

Our team is responsible for delivering the principles and actions towards achieving our goals, to undertake a range of Environmental Enforcement Actions to help deliver the Council's aspirations of a achieving a cleaner greener borough, by reducing all types of fly-tipping and waste incidences across the borough.

As part of a wider team, and in partnership with our Service Providers delivering clean streets to our citizens and residents, you will hold people accountable for their actions.

This role involves undertaking investigations and enforcement actions for littering, fly-tipping, and non-compliance with commercial and household and duty of care and recycling schemes.

You will be reporting to the PFI Contract Manager.


About You

  • Work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team to achieve One Hounslow programme objectives.
  • Effective communication skills and the ability to interact well with the Borough's residents and businesses to understand their needs and provide support.
  • Experience of actively communicating in a way that is open, consistent and clear, sharing information with others and the willingness to listen and negotiate. You will be required to deal with confrontational situations in a courteous, confident, calm, impartial, assertive and safe manner in all situations encountered by the team and respect the confidentiality and dignity of others at all times.
  • Understanding of relevant provisions outlined within the Environmental Protection Act 1990, Clean Neighbourhood and Environment Act 2005 and the Anti-Social Behaviour, Crime and Policing Act 201
  • Demonstrate knowledge and experience in Environmental Enforcement using powers from relevant legislation.
  • Ability to produce high quality prosecution statements, case files, statutory notices, warning letters and educational material to support Council action to tackle offending behaviour.
  • Valid driving license valid in the U.K for a minimum of 1 year for use with your own vehicle or a Council pool vehicle.
