The employment and economic wellbeing of residents was heavily impacted by Covid-19, which also had a huge impact some of our key employers in the creative and cultural and hospitality sectors.

We know that the current cost of living crisis is also placing some of our residents under incredible financial pressure, so for Lambeth Council supporting residents to find 'good work' and achieve financial stability is more important than ever.

Here in Lambeth, we recognise the value in our role as a creator of jobs in the borough (through our own workforce, through regeneration, and in our supply chain) and we are always looking for new ways to achieve better outcomes for our residents.

We have big ambitions - and to support those, we are looking to grow our Skills and Employment team to deliver a range of high-quality employment support programmes for residents that lead to 'good' jobs and apprenticeships.

The new ESF Connecting Communities programme provides us with the opportunity to directly support residents into work, and we're very focussed on supporting the career ambitions and employment of our young people through the Lambeth Made Youth Promise which includes our Youth Hubs, Steps to Success care leavers programme, and Supported Employment Partnership.

The Principal Employment and Skills Officer will work alongside a team of four other Principal Officers, with a primary focus on the development and delivery of our youth employment offer.

The role includes responsibility for the oversight and development of our Lambeth Made Youth Hubs, and Youth Promise offer for young people aged 16-30 years.

The postholder will also lead on some new key areas of work:
the development of apprenticeships in Lambeth, and our SEND Supported Employment Partnership.
