Availability:
Full Time. 4-night rota - Mon-Sun working 38 hours per week between 22:00 - 08:00.


Salary:
£11.61 per hour. £312.00 monthly shift allowance for night rota.

About the Role


T2 Sexual Health Adviser primary role is to provide information on all aspects of sexual and reproductive health to the general public via telephone helpline and promote key messages on risk reduction as defined by Public Health England client.


To signpost service users to appropriate services for their needs and assist them beyond any barriers in accessing these services.

They must be non-judgemental, calm, able to explain complex medical concerns in a simple and straight forward way and demonstrate a respectful and proactive approach to the needs of those in groups of inclusion.


Key Purpose (OHID previously PHE)


The Sexual Health Information Line operate on two tiers T1 advisers are trained internally to triage calls and provide basic information and simple signposts.


T2 advisers are qualified to Sexual Health Adviser Competency and operate within that professional framework and the remit boundaries as defined by professional bodies and PHE client.

Clinical Supervision, escalation and guidance is provided by Clinical Lead.

This feeds into the wider PHE Team Managers and Service Manager Structure.

Essential Technical and Professional Skills, Knowledge, and Qualifications
A health, psychology, social care and/or substance misuse related qualification for example:

  • A recognized Counselling diplomas
  • A relevant post graduate higher qualification e.g., a MSc in Counselling, Health Education/ Promotion, Public Health
The above-mentioned list is not exhaustive; other relevant qualifications/training and working towards a relevant qualification may be considered.

Those who do not have the above qualifications will be considered if extensive experience and other forms of continued professional development related to substance misuse can be demonstrated.


Desirable Qualifications:
A DEGREE or above, a Qualification in drugs, alcohol, or tobacco studies/smoking cessation

  • Ability to handle the sensitive nature of calls/contacts to the service with empathy, professionalism, and a nonjudgemental approach
  • Ability to articulate and communicate effectively with service users of all ages (including young people) and backgrounds, conveying information and tailoring support specific to caller's needs, age and understanding
  • The ability to adhere to a defined remit and work to service and professional boundaries
  • The ability and willingness to work within PHE and Serco policies, procedures and guidelines as directed
  • Willingness to ask for support where required and use the information available to support contact handling
  • Ability and willingness to update knowledge and skills with any new developments in guidelines and/or changes to service delivery
  • Ability to work on own initiative whilst recognising limitations and when referral to another service/discussion with a manager is required
  • Ability to articulate and communicate effectively with all stakeholders including service users, colleagues, department of health and external organisations
  • Ability and willingness to accurately profile service user information.

Health Promotion, Smoking Cessation Adviser, Drug or alcohol worker, Education, Youth work, General health/ment
