An exciting opportunity has arisen for two band 8a Modern Matron positions within the Secure Care Division of Mersey care NHS Foundation Trust.


The division is responsible for specialised secure mental health and learning disability services, in low, medium and high secure settings for service users with a primary classification of mental illness, personality disorders, learning disabilities and autism.

You will be required to have substantive post qualification and managerial experience within Mental Health / Learning Disabilities services.

You will provide key leadership and therefore, you will possess strong leadership skills with the ability to engage, motivate and influence others.

You will be required to have good inter-personal skills, be a creative thinker, lead by example and have the ability to work effectively with external stakeholders and commissioners.

Allocations are based on service need* and will be confirmed upon completion of individuals recruitment checks.

The management of a number of wards / areas within agreed budgets, providing leadership and direction to staff. To promote and maintain the quality of care and treatment provided for service users. To liaise and communicate effectively with other disciplines and agencies involved
in the care, treatment and rehabilitation of service users.

  • Responsible for the operational management of a designated number of clinical areas.
  • Ensure the highest standards of clinical practice by providing leadership and direction
to all staff within the accountable area.

  • Supervise and appraise and set and monitor objectives for ward/team/unit.
  • Ensure the most effective use of the agreed staffing resources.
  • Ensure the effective management of sickness/absence as directed by procedure.
  • Maintain a regular presence in all clinical areas, ensuring visibility and leadership.7. Investigate complaints, concerns and incidents as directed, and provide reports according
to deadlinesset.

  • Prepare job descriptions and person specifications according to approved design and
oversee the recruitment and selection of staff.

  • Collaborate and liaise with other disciplines and agencies involved with service users.
  • Liaise with acute hospitals so that service users receive the most appropriate care and
treatment when attending for pre-planned or emergencyappointments.

  • Monitor all areas for maintaining a clean and safe environment and reportany shortfall
to the appropriate department.

  • To mobilise across the Secure Care Division when required, to meet the needs of the
service.
