Description

Previous experience in Radiotherapy Engineering is essential, although equipment specific training will be provided by a combination of the equipment manufacturers and in-house technologists.

Full manufacturer training will be providedto enable the individuals to work independently.


You will develop skills in the following areas: management and leadership skills, high power RF microwave and x-ray generation, high vacuum systems, motor speed control, electronic position sensing and control, analogue servo control, data acquisition and display, advanced digital imaging, laser alignment, computer control, networking, and mechanical engineering.


The Radiotherapy cancer unit at The James Cook University Hospital serves a population of approximately 1.10 million people living in industrial areas of Middlesbrough and rural areas including the Durham Dales and North Yorkshire.

The department has five of the latest Elekta linear accelerators equipped with state-of-the-art Agility MLC for VMAT delivery and XVI cone beam CT for IGRT/ VMAT, two CT scanners, one superficial/deep X-ray set, two treatment planning systems, an integrated patient management and verification system (Mosaiq) and one remote after-loading Brachytherapy unit.
