This is an exciting time to work in Bristol's Private Housing Service. A large proportion of Bristol's population now lives in the private rented sector.

The City Council has established a number of area-based property licensing schemes in addition to the mandatory licensing of Houses in Multiple Occupation.


Working with the Private Housing Manager and other Private Housing Team Leaders, you will be responsible for the effective delivery of licensing schemes across the city.


You will have the ability to supervise a group of staff including the allocation and monitoring of caseloads, as well as motivating and supporting individuals.


You will be able to support, coach and mentor less experienced colleagues and to plan and deliver effective training programmes.


In addition to property licensing, the Private Housing Service is responsible for full range of private-sector housing issues including, empty-homes, complaints, enforcement and technical support.

There may be opportunities in the future to work in these different areas.


Essential Requirements


You should have an extensive knowledge of a wide range of environmental health housing legislation, good practice and housing construction, as well as a good knowledge of residential tenancy legislation.


You will have extensive post-qualification environmental health housing practice with experience of inspections, scheduling, informal engagement, formal legal processes, a extensive experience of working in a customer-focussed front-line service.

Our main office is modern and centrally located close to transport links (rail, bus and cycle hubs), although we are currently primarily home-based, with four-weekly office team days.
