SALARY SCALE £23, 914 - £25, 808 PER ANNUM:

An exciting opportunity has arisen to join The Access Place as we are currently seeking a Medical Secretary to provide secretarial, clerical and reception support to integrated primary care, housing and social work team working together to improve the lives of homeless people who have complex needs.

You will be a team player with excellent communication, interpersonal and time management skills. You should have outstanding secretarial, clerical and organisational skills, as well as plenty of initiative, enthusiasm, flexibility and motivation.

A sympathetic approach to the challenging needs of vulnerable homeless individuals is essential alongside a professional manner when dealing with a wide variety of disciplines at all levels.

You should work well within a busy team and have the ability to prioritise your work, with a good knowledge of current computer systems being fundamental to essential.


As Medical Secretary your duties will include:

  • Responsible for the efficient and accurate production of confidential medical referral letters, reports and any other relevant correspondence to help ensure an effective system of patient referral to secondary care.
  • Responsible for the efficient and accurate production of letters, memos, reports, and any other relevant correspondence as required by the practice team.
  • Service staff group meetings and other jointinterdisciplinary meetings by drafting agendas; taking and producing minutes thereof and circulating in a timely manner.
  • Participation in a weekly rota covering reception
  • Answering phones; clinical filing and general admin
  • Ensure standards of patient/carer confidentiality are maintained
  • Support clinical staff on a daily basis to ensure smooth running of clinical services
  • Liaise with external agencies and ensure effective and efficient communication at all times
  • Contribute positively to the support provided to the service users of Edinburgh Access Practice and The Access Place in a traumainformed way
