An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Deputy Head of Operations within Cardiology and Respiratory specialties based at our Aintree site.


The post holder will work closely with the Head of Operations, Care Group Clinical Lead, and the Care Group Lead Nurse to provide operational and business leadership to support the delivery of high quality and safe clinical services within required national and local standards.


The Deputy Head of Operations will be responsible for supporting the Head of Operations in leading the effective and efficient delivery of the day to day operational performance of the Care Group ensuring sustainable delivery of high quality patient care, safety, operational standards and quality/service improvement programmes.


They will have significant experience in a leadership role within an acute hospital setting, including a track record of performance management and experience of successful management of change and developing teams.

Liverpool University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust was created on 1 October 2019 following the merger of two adult acute Trusts, Aintree University Hospital NHS Foundation Trust and the Royal Liverpool and Broadgreen University Hospitals NHS Trust.


The merger provides an opportunity to reconfigure services in a way that provides the best healthcare services to the city and improves the quality of care and health outcomes that patients experience.

The Trust runs Aintree University Hospital, Broadgreen Hospital, Liverpool University Dental Hospital and the Royal Liverpool University Hospital.


It serves a core population of around 630,000 people across Merseyside as well as providing a range of highly specialist services to a catchment area of more than two million people in the North West region and beyond.

In addition to supporting the delivery of the overall Care Group strategy the Deputy Head of Operations will take operational responsibility for the specialist services within the Care Group.

This will include managing a team of operational support managers and administration teams, being responsible for budgets and writing local policies.

Proactively providing solutions to resolve operational issues in accordance with agreed Divisional objectives, targets, quality standards and resource constraints.

The Deputy Head of Operations will have management experience in overseeing the performance of teams and will possess personal qualities and skills to deal completely with operational issues.


The Deputy Head of Operations will implement patient centred clinical operational strategy and plans, advising the Care Group Leadership team and ensuring that systems and processes are in place and adhered to.

The Deputy Head of Operations will lead plans and strategies for the care group specialties.


The Deputy Head of Operations will take forward strategic direction and policy setting for the Division within the context set by the Care Group Leadership team, maintaining an essential communications link between the Division, Care Group and relevant external organisations.

The Deputy Head of Operations will have oversight of the Care Group's overall budgets. They will manage work streams within identified scheme's to ensure achievement of the CIP target for the Care Group.

The post holder has line management responsibility for the operational managers within the Care Group.

Demonstrate management skills to ensure that staff and stakeholder engagement is reflected in the decision making process.


The Deputy Head of Operations will provide a visible and accessible presence to ensure delivery of the Division and Care Groups overall objectives and service priorities.
