Our Client:


Iconsys have retained Seymour John on an exclusive basis to recruit their first ever Finance Director / Head of Finance due to growth and ambition.

Established in 1987, Iconsys deliver full life-cycle industrial automation solutions and systems integrationsfrom design, component assembly, installation, and commissioning, through to servicing and maintenance.

Well-established and highly respected, they combine innovative technologies with extensive industry knowledge and experience to supply complex turnkey solutionsto the UK's main manufacturing industries.

The business is profitable with sales turnover anticipated to be £10m for the year ended 31st March 2023. They currently employ around 70 people and are self-funding.

How You Can Help:


  • We'd like you to develop cost centre analysis and reporting which enables us to understand the drivers of our commercial and financial success at a detailed level. This will give our Managers the information they need to influence even better future outcomesacross areas such as Production, Projects, Installations and Service.
  • You can support our ambition for profitable growth by helping us make great decisions around strategic planning, through to financial assessment of business opportunities, and guiding more efficient operational practices.
  • There's a significant benefit to be had by instilling costsavings culture and mindset across every person in the business. Can you as a Finance Leader work with our Leadership team through our Culture Committee and individuals to help us get this right.
  • With investment in the building, people and business for growth, increasingly larger and more complex projects, and global supply chain issues which stretch project completion timelines, careful management of cash flow has become a higher priority and anarea we believe you can offer valuable leadership.
  • We'd appreciate a careful review of our financial processes and controls so that our business is set up for success with no surprises.
  • Our IT systems are a blend of bespoke ERP, Sage 50 and Payroll and a live implementation of Ms Dynamics CRM module. You can help us to steer the future evolution of our systems platform for success.
  • Effectively manage and motivate the finance and procurement team, currently 3 people including a Head of Procurement.
  • Be a decisionmaking authority on our cost expenditure, payroll, and investments.
- and of course, there's the standard stuff such as management accounts provision, budgeting and forecasting, balance sheet oversight, year-end accounts, HMRC compliance, banking relationships, and leading any future external financing conversations.


Who Are We Looking For?

  • A seasoned Financial Controller or Finance Director with the breadth of experience and character fit to make a broad, impactful contribution across the entire business.
  • Someone excited about the challenge of helping the business and all of its people to be more financially astute in their decisions and behaviour.
  • Someone who is always open to learning, improving themselves and others.
  • Previous experience in an engineering or construction projects business would allow you to make a more immediate contribution, all other things being equal.
